How big is your board?

Have you tried re-building your search index?
It's showing 9091 posts with 1987 topics. Database size is 45.25 MiB. That's not that big, is it?

Yes, I have re-built the search index.

Re: Slow searches on new Linode machine

You need to get the right setup ;) I would think my setup should be good... it seems to work well for everything else. What do you think might be wrong with it? I could always pay more per month to Linode to get more RAM and processors but I think it should be fast enough with what I have now, whic...

Try mySQL Fulltext and php7
I use PHP 7.1.6.

Is "MySQL Fulltext" known to be better than "phpBB Native Fulltext"?

Slow searches on new Linode machine

I'm running 3.2.0. I recently moved to a Linode server at at $20/month level which gives me 2 CPUs and 4GB of RAM. My previous server was more powerful and I don't recall there ever being a problem with search speed. However, on the new Linode server, searching for something like "apple" can take ar...

Re: Discuss: phpBB 3.2 Rhea Feature Release Published

Happy to hear about the new release! I'm still running 3.1.9. Is it "safe" to go ahead and upgrade to 3.2 or should I wait until 3.2.1? I usually like to make sure they get more bugs out. :D Also really looking forward to being able to upgrade to PHP 7 which I will be able to do with 3.2. OK, I bit...

Re: PHP 7.0 support?

and I seriously doubt that you will see a dramatic speed increase (if any ) with php7 when running a phpbb board. Well I won't (because my server has lots of spare CPU power) but I would think that a heavily loaded server that is running a lot of PHP would benefit significantly given the performanc...

Great. Thanks. I upgraded my server from PHP 5.5 to 5.6 so at least I'm moving up for now. As soon as phpBB 3.2 is installed then I will move to PHP 7.

Re: PHP 7.0 support?

3.1.x is not compatible with php7, although I believe 3.2.x is (someone correct me if I'm wrong about 3.2 ;) ) That seems to be the case.... but yes, someone please correct us if it's not. I was going to upgrade my server to PHP 7 but looks like I will wait now since phpBB 3.1 is not compatible. :(

PHP 7.0 support?

I'm confused. Does phpBB 3.1.8 support PHP 7.0? On this page it says it does not if I'm reading it correctly: https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3.1/ug/ But on this page it says that the docs "State support for PHP 7.0": https://www.phpbb.com/support/documents.php?mode=changelog#v317 Where is the...

Re: Discuss: phpBB 3.1.7-PL1 Released

Sometimes I can see that some spambots try to get on my forum. It's happen recently. If phpBB 3.1 was broken through spambots? How it possible that spambot could answer on random questions during the registration? spambot.png I have had spammers occasionally post on my forum even though I use the Q...

Re: Discuss: phpBB 3.1.7-PL1 Released

I installed 3.1.7-PL1 as a fresh install on a new server. I am having the issue where after one post the users are not leaving Newly Registered Users. How can I fix this? I'm having the same issue here and came here to report it. I'm glad it is already been reported. I am having to remove the users...

Re: Automatically nofollow links in posts?

Robert, I'm pretty sure I've read that google will punish a site that has links to bad or spam sites. Granted, there may have to be a lot of such links before any real effect, but I'd rather not have such links in my forum at all... and if I do have them, then I would sure hope they were "nofollow" ...

Add "nofollow" to links extension for 3.1?

I would like to request (if there isn't already) an extension that adds rel="nofollow" to all links posted in the forum, except for links matching specified domain names. This is because: 1. It makes me feel better knowing that spammer's aren't benefiting from their spam on my forum. 2. It could pot...
