Re: Login at phpbb

This is getting a bit annoying. I have now been asked several times to enter the CAPTCHA when I try to administrate the forum. Does this mean someone (or bot) continues to try to hack my account? If so, is there anything that can be easily done to stop this user/bot (I assume it's some type of hacki...

Re: Login at phpbb

Happened to me too recently (and at least one other user who mentioned it). I don't think it's happened to me before, so I was a little surprised at first to see the bad login attempts message and the CAPTCHA, but I'm glad to see I'm not alone. I don't think they are going to be able to "brute force...

Re: Link cache directory to RAM drive?

By the way, if anyone else has done this... I'd like to know the results. I don't have a heavily loaded forum (wish I did), but it's always nice to be faster and more efficient and take some writes of an SSD drive in the process.

Has anyone else moved the cache folder to RAM?

Re: Link cache directory to RAM drive?

Well, I went ahead and did it and so far so good. I made a symbolic link from the forum's cache directory to a directory mounted on a RAM drive (using tmpfs) and I am copying the .htaccess file over there. The directory should clear at reboot but I suppose that shouldn't be an issue as things will b...

Re: Link cache directory to RAM drive?

I assume you are running phpBB on a local machine. We need a few more details, like what operating system it is running... Why do you want to do this? There isn't a huge amount of writing to the cache folder anyway. It's on my Linux server which I have full access to. Linux val3 2.6.32.7 #1 SMP Thu...

Link cache directory to RAM drive?

Can I link the forum's cache directory to a directory on a RAM drive? The directory would be cleared at every reboot. Would this be a problem?

Also, would this increase efficiency and performance and reduce disk writes?

What are the negatives?

Thanks!

Re: Possible to limit board-wide feed to one post per topic?

Hello, It's generating multiple links per topic because the links are to individual posts, not to the topics. If you only want one link per topic, then the script should be modified to throw out any duplicate topics. This could be as simple as ignoring anything that contains "• Re: " Thanks. OK, so...

Possible to limit board-wide feed to one post per topic?

Is it possible to limit the board-wide feed for new posts to show no more than one post per topic? Example: If you go here: http://www.crosstimbersgazette.com/ There is a "Latest Forum Topics" section created from this feed. It seems the 3.0.7 update causes topics to be in the feed more than once if...

Re: [RC1] My VIP Code (1.0.0)

Thanks! I just installed this MOD after upgrading to phpBB3. This should be built-in to PHP! I did notice that I don't seem to be getting any error messages if the VIP code is entered wrong... it just takes be back to the registration screen with no info about entering the wrong VIP code. Is this a ...

Re: [RC1] myVIPcode - fight spam registrations

As the absolute BEST spam-blocker known to phpBB--and I'm not sure why this isn't more widely recognized as such--has anyone thought of upgrading this to phpBB3.0 yet? I haven't dug into it yet, so I'm not ready to do it myself, but I will, if no one else has. I know they say phpBB3 has better capt...

Re: Easiest way to include affiliate links/HTML?

Is there any way to let only moderators do special things like use HTML? HTML BBcode MOD Thanks. Not as easy as I was hoping, but I think it's working! It's seems to be real easy to use though, just put the HTML in [html]...[/html] BBCode tags. See: http://www.naturalbodyandhome.com/forum/viewtopic...

I still have this problem since the images won't display with BBCode. Can anyone help with this? Is there any way to let only moderators do special things like use HTML?

Yes, but it contains affiliate info so it's needed.

Re: Easiest way to include affiliate links/HTML?

Thanks! That sounds great but there seems to be a "security" issue as images like this don't display: http://www.phpbb.com/community/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=155102 But if the image ends in ".jpg", it seems to work. So how can I get around this? Here is the link to the actual image I want t...

Easiest way to include affiliate links/HTML?

What is the easiest and safest way for a moderator/admin to include affiliate links (via affiliate HTML including "a" and "img" tags) in posts so that all can see it?
