Re: SMTP error

You need information from the host, of course. One of the questions to ask is, "Does outbound email require TLS or SSL connections?" If the answer is yes, plan on updating to phpBB version 3, because version 2 doesn't do TLS/SSL, and the one MOD that existed to support it is convoluted and unsupport...

Re: recurring errors

If you are getting frequent errors on the same tables, you probably have a disk failing. When you rebuild the tables, they get copied to another area of the disk during the repair operation, then the original files are deleted. When they expand to the bad spot, things crash again... until you do a r...

Re: Urgent -mass emailer 451 qq internal bug ???

A year or so ago, someone posted a message with a link to a Godaddy support document that gave step-by-step instructions on how to enable web-to-SMTP on their servers. No changes were needed to the programs, as I recall, other than they HAD to use the SMTP settings specified in the document, AND you...

Re: Urgent -mass emailer 451 qq internal bug ???

The secret to Godaddy tech support is to request escalation to level 2, where you can begin talking to people who aren't just following a script.

Re: changing logo in php bb 2.0.23

I wrote a MOD a couple of years ago (link in my signature) to put the logo in the Admin Control Panel, but it is not a standard feature of phpBB version 2. It is a feature of v3, however.

Re: idea for an antispambot mod

Been tried. Doesn't work. Spam bots are a lot smarter than you realize nowadays... They even read the forms to add/remove variables according to what the site expects (the "obsolete link" in my signature tried to trip them up, but it no longer works). Most nowadays will request the registration form...

Re: Fatal Error after posting in a topic - Help Please

Usually that error involves a MOD... I get it with the calendar MOD I use, if someone posts a message that has both a calendar entry AND a BBCode within the first 200 characters that extends beyond 200 characters... So, what MODs do you have installed? What is special about what you posted (or repli...

Re: Duplicate entry 'xxx' for key 1 (phpbb design flaw?)

If your autoincrement value for the table is screwed up, you can get the duplicate key error. If the index is screwed up, you can get this error. Both are things a repair will fix.

Re: Deleting mass spam users and threads etc.

Searching here for "MAX_JOIN_SIZE" comes up with lots of hits that could at least explain the problem (like this one, and some that can help, but the situation is that you've hit a limitation in what your host will allow you to do.

Re: Allow users to del/edit own posts?

Users cannot delete their posts if there is a reply to it, no matter what the settings in phpBB v2. If you enable user deletions, it is only going to work if their post is the last one on the topic.

Re: Forum Move , MySQL Error.

Also, phpBB v2 does not support MySQLi (note the "i" on the end). If the server doesn't also have the older MySQL extension in addition to MySQLi support, phpBB won't work.

Changing out to v3 made that a moot point, because it does support MySQLi.

Re: intermitent php mail message error

Try changing: if (!class_exists('emailer')) { include($phpbb_root_path . 'includes/emailer.' . $phpEx); } to: // if (!class_exists('emailer')) // { // include($phpbb_root_path . 'includes/emailer.' . $phpEx); // } and see if the errors disappear. If this script is being included by another (like pos...

Re: intermitent php mail message error

Your script is trying to include a class definition, after it has already done so. Does it explicitly include email.php? If so, it shouldn't - that's included by the common.php script, and the second time is what is causing the error.

New board? Don't bother. Start with phpBB v3.

Version 2.x is still available on the download link above, if you're simply updating an existing board.
