Re: [BETA] AJAX Chat/Shoutbox MOD 2.0.0 Beta 8

@G To fix, follow the DIY instructions. The state browse to chat_install.php?mode=install to install the chat database. Remove the chat_install.php when you are finished This means in your address bar type in http://www.(yourssiteaddress.com)/chat_install.php?mode=install Then hit enter. When I do ...

Re: [BETA] AJAX Chat/Shoutbox MOD 2.0.0 Beta 8

If you're having a server problem with 80 people chatting, you don't have a good server. The code in the first post would keep the number of database entries down, but that's not your problem and also keeping the number of messages at 25 wouldn't help the server problem either. The problem you're ha...

Re: [BETA] AJAX Chat/Shoutbox MOD 2.0.0 Beta 8

If you want no scrollbar, just remove the overflow, then it will always show the latest chat messages. (it's in the CSS in chat_body.html) and if you use the code on the first post here, it will keep your database trimmed. Either way, removing chat messages right away when it reaches 25 messages doe...

Re: Twitter = phpBB and Chat/Shoutbox MOD?

Certainly could be done without too much difficulty :) Very interesting idea… one I probably could add after IRC integration. Hi, I wonder if this mod could be extended for making a phpBB/chat system like a almost similar Twitter functionality copy? phpBB and a chat is so close for making a Twitter ...

Re: [BETA] AJAX Chat/Shoutbox MOD 2.0.0 Beta 8

it would take more work than that to remove the last post every time a new post comes in… though I don't see why you would want to do that :?

Re: TPB sold...

The pirate bay sounded like something run in someone's basement, to me. According to the Alex traffic rank, TPB was/is the 112th most popular website on the web. Granted, Alexa isn't always accurate, but even if they were 100 slots off, no biggie. I only wish I could run a site that successful out ...

Chrome uses an outdated version of WebKit. They...

Re: The new Internet Explorer 8: Fast and smooth like Firefox!

oh yes, they did make up a lot of ground between IE7 and IE8. I even have some proof IE7: http://img.skitch.com/20090326-rruyuy37twr65gqri6bfw1hmca.preview.jpg IE8: http://img.skitch.com/20090326-c55sw7y25e4e3m4tg2ta7fqyee.preview.jpg FireFox http://img.skitch.com/20090531-chiyu7kry4c31pxqhpkdhqhikk...

Re: The new Internet Explorer 8: Fast and smooth like Firefox!

Sometimes when I open IE8, it doesn't load up but just spins forever. Why is that? Also, what do you guys think of Google Chrome browser? As I mentioned earlier, it's WebKit (same as Safari and numerous other browsers that use the Webkit engine). Webkit is a standards compliant browser and about 95...

Re: The new Internet Explorer 8: Fast and smooth like Firefox!

I downloaded IE8 a while back as well (have to test everything in IE7 and IE8 now) IE8 is better than IE7 and way better than IE6, but it's still years behind FireFox in rendering and Javascript (they still have some bugs that they haven't fixed since they were reported in 2003 - and yes, I ran into...

Re: Oracle buys Sun!!!!!

This isn't cool. Oracle owns a competing product to MySQL. A competing product that costs a lot of money. Oracle owns the MySQL innoDB database type, which makes it a pain for businesses because they can only use MyISAM (MyISAM is completely owned by MySQL and therefore free) unless they want to sh...

Re: U.S. posters ready for earth hour?

all this nonsense about global warming gets me warmed up for sure. when the globe starts to warm ( right now it is actually cooling ) it will be a part of the natural cycle of the planet. just like it has done before and will do again. are we polluting the atmosphere? yes, and at some point, it may...

Re: U.S. posters ready for earth hour?

Hey, If Al Gore couldn't be bothered to turn off all the lights and TV's in his Energy Inefficient Mansion™ , why should we? I understand that when you consume nearly 20 times more electricity than the average American, you can spend all day turning off your lights and still miss a few. I’m sure thi...

actually, I didn't realize that, but I did (oddly enough) get in bed an hour earlier than I usually do and I got up early this morning and made the most of the daylight :)
