Re: search_ignore_words

This I know, I had as well found : function get_ignore_words() In includes/search/search.php, but the method is just never used by phpBB3, and this is precisely what I'd like to implement back. Anyway, I found it, was easier than I first though, it's in includes/functions_posting.php : $search->inde...

search_ignore_words

After searching about this on the web and here at phpBB.com, I couldn't find anyone to have re enabled the search_ignore_words list in the search function. I'm wondering why this feature was dropped too, since I couldn't find any thing about this either. Anyway, I understand that the current princip...

Re: Problems after conversion from IPB 2.3.5

In case someone else goes through this issue, a pass through utf8_normalize_nfc() may help on the guilty text field ;)

Re: [ALPHA] Shop Mod (0.4.1)

Unfortunately it seems that Phantom784 isn't very active on this thread. Anyway, here is an optimization that should help some. By default, the mod will perform one SQL qery per poster on a thread, and worst, will redo the query for each post of the same user. Here is a simple workaround that does n...

Re: Help with forums sharing same database.

Please note that if the same content is made available with more than one domain, it will be duplicate content. As well, session sharing is only possible within and single domain and its subdomains, users can be shared among several domains though, but user will have to log in again in each domain. ...

Re: Help with forums sharing same database.

I don't get what you mean. Think of this like if you where installing several phpBB instance in separate directories, either in the same domain or in sub-domains, you can as well do it with separate domains, user will still be shared but sessions will be lost when going from one domain to another (u...

Re: Help with forums sharing same database.

You mean that you want to allow your user to have different colors on all forums, for example because of the local group to be different and have different colors ? So you are adding one extra color row for each user, eg user_colour_alpha etc ? Have you mass searched for the string : 'user_colour' i...

Re: PHPBB 3 Esential SEO List

If only Google was not so coward and would clearly define the good and bad practices. They could for example set up some verification made on a voluntary basis to validate a particular practice, so we could fell fully safe about what are we doing, since some time, the grey zone is not well defined. ...

Re: PHPBB 3 Esential SEO List

You’re not going to fall into the cloaking penalisation UNLESS you are seeding the bots with different content. In the case of phpBB3, it is hiding content that is useless for Google, such as profile fields, links to IM addresses, forms, "dead" links, or links that would lead to duplicate content. ...

Re: PHPBB 3 Esential SEO List

Great post Highway of Life, I was too lasy to goo further in details, but you pretty much said all about it. I off course do not only mention URL rewriting, not even URL rewriting with keywords injected actually, when talking about SEO. I'll just add that there is no magic here, work and good conten...

Re: PHPBB 3 Esential SEO List

Well, I was talking about post urls viewtopic.php? p =xx in comparison with the topic urls viewtopic.php? t =yy Off course post urls are hidden for bots in many cases, like in topic view, but not in forum view for example : http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:www.phpbb.com/community/viewforum.php%3...

Re: PHPBB 3 Esential SEO List

There is an SEO MOD but phpBB3 is inherently fine for SEO. This site doesn't use any. I would distinguish two problematic here, first, the one I agree with the phpBB Group : phpBB3 is fine as released, because it's using very high coding standards, has many wonderful features and is universal , to ...

Re: Help with forums sharing same database.

If sessions are not shared directly, it can come from the cookie and domain settings. So, if all boards are using the same domain or, sub domains from the same domain, sessions should be shared directly as long as the cookie settings are correct eg : cookie domain : .example.com (with the dot ".") c...

Re: Help with forums sharing same database.

The trick I mentioned should do, when board A tries to trash a cache file, the code will attempt to trash the same cache file name in board B's cache dir, it will at least work for the common caching things such as phpbb config (data_global and basically all the data_* files), the script could filte...
