Re: [RC4] GYM Sitemaps & RSS (aka mx Google Sitemaps)

i cant make this mod working! Maybe someone could help me? Thanks The style issue is just due to the fact you need to upload the gss_style/ dir (with files) in the same directory where rss.php and sitemap.php are located. The means you need it two times in case you do not run rss.php and sitemap.ph...

Re: [RC4] GYM Sitemaps & RSS (aka mx Google Sitemaps)

you just need to upload the install script (eg db_install.php) where phpBB is installed, and run it from there. 1) Upload root/ggs_style/*.* where rss.php and sitemap.php are installed. 2) CHMOD mx_ggsitemaps/gs_cache/ to 0777 3) Upload contrib/db_install.php to db_install.php 4) Connect yourself as...

Some time, an example is handier than a long post, but, of course, you decide.

Re: [RC4] GYM Sitemaps & RSS (aka mx Google Sitemaps)

Sorry for the delay, I was really busy with phpBB3 SEO. Anyway, I don't understand really what problem occurred when you tried to upload the ggs_style/ folder (with files in it) in your forum folder. The files in there are only used for styling the xml output of the mod (Google sitemaps and RSS 2.0 ...

Re: [RC4] GYM Sitemaps & RSS (aka mx Google Sitemaps)

You're asking yourself to many questions ;) Try something simple, set up a test board and you'll see this module really is easy to install. As well, first try the default install, and then, you'll see better if you need to change some things. The *.* indicate all files, since we ask to upload root/g...

Re: Out of the box phpBB 3 is awful for SEO

about a), since I do not set any auth to the bots, I assume they cannot, or if they can, that this is a bug that will be fixed.

Then again, I was only talking about how to filter the useles content.

From includes/session.php $this->data['is_bot'] = (!$this->data['is_registered'] && $this->data['user_id'] != ANONYMOUS) ? true : false; From includes/functions.php 'S_USER_LOGGED_IN' => ($user->data['user_id'] != ANONYMOUS) ? true : false, Not a guest, but can be a bot. Re: Out of the box phpBB 3 is awful for SEO

I fully agree with your view thecoalman.

@Frank Rizzo : I was talking about filtering content using the is_registered switch VS the is_bot one.
I'm talking about the way you do it, not about why and how pages could be better SEOed for bots.

Re: Out of the box phpBB 3 is awful for SEO

What about news such which return stories in serps but when you click on them you are required to register before reading? Isn't that deceitful? Would google start banning the national newspapers? I think there is no need to be over cautious about this. As long as you are not deceiving the public t...

Re: Out of the box phpBB 3 is awful for SEO

dcz wrote: in the templates it's S_REGISTERED_USER.

Code: Select all

<!-- IF not S_REGISTERED_USER -->
<!-- ENDIF -->
will do it. The S_USER_LOGGED_IN would not be enough for both bots and guests.

Re: Out of the box phpBB 3 is awful for SEO

Yes, what is hidden for guest is hidden for bots too, even though bots can browse private forums if you decide to (which again would be cloaking).
The $user->data['is_registered'] value is enough for both guest and bots, in the templates it's S_REGISTERED_USER.

Re: Out of the box phpBB 3 is awful for SEO

I fully agree with you, but try to come up with some answer by Google on this, and I'll start advising something else. Cloaking is serving different content to bots and guest, this is the strict definition. Google adds the fact that the goal is to distort SERPS, and here, you're not doing it for any...
