So I guess you can access your database using your domain address, with that table name and your user/password.

Instead of localhost, try 127.0.0.1, if failed then try using your domain address (the one you used to access the database).

That's a nice idea!
The mod itself should be too hard.
Just when someone clicked on submit, the mod should compare the entered password with a dictionary.
Now, that's the hard part. How to have a good dictionary, and how to make dictionary-password checking less slow.
Hmm..

Yes, you guessed right: it's on the TPL files.
So, just edit the TPL (it's just some HTML codes), removing the variable links and/or adding yours in.

You can compare the viewed source (the one from your browser) with the TPL to find the line location of what you were looking for.

I think my curiousity still hasn't got a straight answer. Mentioned that you got the latest of everything. But as far as I know, the latest phpBB does not work with the latest PHP, unless if you are using the modified version of phpbb. So, if using a modified version of phpbb, isn't possible the hac...

The CHMOD to config.php file is to allow the install to write out the configuration result on your server. However, you don't have to do CHMOD because when install can't write to config.php, it will download the supposedly config.php to you, then you can just upload config.php to the server.

Maybe update_to_latest.php wasn't?
It should update the version number in db.

Just curious, I had a fresh version INSTALLED here.. On a BRAND NEW SERVER..with latest versions of PHP, MYSQL and PHPBB2. I thought PHPBB2 does not work with PHP5 yet. So, are you using the modified version of PHPBB2 ? Maybe you got hacked because of something in the modification? But from your log...

Try this:

This is assuming that your table prefix was phpbb_

Re: Database password crackable! :(

Not flaming you, etc but.. The program was called MD5 cacker, it uses dictionary attacks, It means your password exists in the dictionary! Then the weakness is on your poor choice of words. A good security practice is to not using dictionary words as your password. You can still use some variation o...

It means your table is not there.
Are you sure you are using 'tantri3_phpbb2.phpbb' as your prefix?
Check your phpmyadmin, see what is table prefix. Should be something_config where something_ is used for all tables in the db.

Try using a prepackaged Webserver-PHP-mySQL, such as EasyPHP.
