Re: A Way Test URL Rewriting?

Thanks again 3Di, I found the problem with the rewrite rule, when i was uploading it via the 1and1 file manager, it was uploading it as htaccess, now when i press the faq button it's working fine. The top of my .htaccess now reads: <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTPS} !=on ...

A Way Test URL Rewriting?

Is there a way to test URL rewriting? I notice in my ACP i have this message: We are unable to determine whether or not this server supports URL rewriting. This setting may be enabled but if URL rewriting is not available, paths generated by this board (such as for use in links) may be broken. Conta...

Re: SSL not working on my newly setup forum

I had the same problem yesterday and as Sakm says it needs to be redirected, I was able to do it following the info that 3Di had posted: Forget any suggested change above posted. In your .htaccess file (YOUR_FORUM_ROOT/.htaccess) after the first 2 lines <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on ADD,...

Re: Help With Installation

1) use notepad++ on Windows or Geany on Linux https://notepad-plus-plus.org/ 2) You have to force it in htaccess See https://www.siteground.com/kb/how-to-force-ssl-with-htaccess/ Thank you :-) Fixed it using this solution: Forget any suggested change above posted. In your .htaccess file (YOUR_FORUM...

Re: Help With Installation

Thanks Elias, i've now got the phpBB files installed.

When i was reading a guide for installing the software, it said i would be asked to change "chmod permissions" but it installed and i didn't see any mention of those permissions, is that normal ?

Domain Set Up

I'm in the process of getting a host and a domain name, but i'm at a loss as to how to set up the domain. I was hoping to be able to have the forum at for example: www.******.co.uk but most forums seem to be www.*****.co.uk/phpbb or /forum or /community etc. To do a quick test i grabbed some free ho...

You can do it on your own computer Installing and Setting Up Your Own Web Server Thanks for this, I've had fun installing styles, extensions and figuring how to set them up :) The message after posting is standard. Re: Options For Starting My Own Forum

Thanks to you both for your replies :) I always assumed the original forum was on a hosted set up because it was hard to run, but it sounds like once the setup is done it should be straight forward, Could anyone suggest a free hosting site that i can try a test forum on? (pm if better) doesn't matte...

Re: Options For Starting My Own Forum

Thanks for the reply KevC

Would i need to learn anything about MYSQL first?
What scares me is the thought of starting it off and then after a month getting a problem that i can't fix.
