INACTIVE USER (hmmmm)

One of my top posters claims he cant log in anymore because he gets an "INACTIVE USER" error.

I checked the admin panel and it still shows him as active. Ideas to what could cause this?

Ok, I tried to insert the code, but for some reason, names like SPAM99 are still getting through. Maybe I am missing something? I tried all sorts of things this morning to get the code to work... // Don't allow " and ALT-255 in username. if (strstr($username, '"') || strstr($username, '"') || strstr...

Yup. It seems most automated spam bots generate names by assigning random characters into the name fields. Most their software doesnt even bother to make sure numbers are not included. I hardly ever have a legit user use a numerical character. If phpBB could have a feature to prohibit this, I see a ...

I've noticed if I can somehow ban NUMBERS in names, I could cut down more more than 50% of registrations.

I really doubt that most these spam accounts are by real people. The names are too robotic in nature. They look like bots right off the bat... eg... Ranhaw203a, Acwwws5493A, etc. These are random generated names by a computer. Why would a human specificaly spam, trying to act like a real person when...

I have come across some cleaver & nasty links on my forum which give FAKE 404 errors. In reality, the link uses exploits in IE to install a trojan on your box. The 404 is more of a cover-up like "see.... nothing here this page doesn't exist. " The user gets a stronger sense of security, and in two d...

I've also been doing some thinking on the matter. Character recognition is just getting too good these days with computers. The way I see to fix this, is how about we have different generated images of a House, or Dog, or Trash-Can. Then the user selects from a list of words which corresponds to the...

Unless you have a really, really compelling forum, making a new member wait for a half hour after registering to post means that they'll probably go elsewhere in the meantime rather than just waiting, staring at their monitor, and there's a good chance they won't come back. I agree. In fact I tried...

Yes, Im using the latest version. I removed the verify e-mail accounts thing because that was such a joke as for blocking spam-bots. These losers have fake accounts set up to get around it anyway, so the only one who suffers is the legit users again. I installed the admintoolkit as suggested, but fo...

Jesus christ! I woke up today, and had to delete another 30 spam posts from the night... took a 2 hour break for a walk, came back and there is another 20 new ones AGAIN! And the few users I have left are getting tired of asking for better control. This VC just does NOT WORK. And I noticed the same ...

Where exactly are these images stored? Someone mentioned before that drawing a line through them cuts down 90% of the spam overnight.

Ok I woke up today, and during the night I have 30 new spammed messages. ARughhh.... Some stupid bots posted multiple times on EVERY forum I had, despite it is set for registerd users only, and I have visual confirmation on. I know vc doesnt work. I suspect that it just takes the images, and checks ...

I just had a very nice day. I get up, check my forum, and I see during the night I had post after post of rape/beastial/incest... and tadahh... Kiddie porn. How wonderful, not only does this make my forums look bad, but it makes me lose some of my regulars, and also risks me getting jail time cause ...

But as very few people bother to look through memberlists I can't see the point.

They dont care that no humans will read it. The point is search engines index these pages, getting their muck-info spread across more areas of the net.

Well, what I'm getting at, is that toolkit needs a (select all) option to make things quicker than clicking on 20 thousand users listed. Maybe I am missing the obvious.
