Backup Files not found?

I have been making backups for a long time. But now I finaly need to use them, I am runing into problems. I go to the restore option in the admin panel, but when I start the backup, it seems to do something for a brief moment, then I always get the message: No file was uploaded Very confused here.

Ya same problems on my forum. I wish phpbb could have by default a built in system in the admin panel so I could say, tell it to prune it after such & such a size, or characters...

Don't forget the time when IpowerWeb had their servers infected with that worm, which trashed almost every phpbb system. And for over a week they claimed these attacks were from outside their servers.

Extra info addition to avatar area?

Hello guys, I've been trying to find this out for over a day now. I noticed on some vbulletin forums, if a user has say, won an award or something, you will often see some kind of trophy icon, or text labeled under their avatar on that user's posts. These are somehow added by the admins. I looked in...

How do they do this...

On some forums if users have done something unique, such as win a contest for example, you will often see an extra avatar below their main avatar, or some other kind of touched up description there, set by the moderators I guess. I had thought that was what Usergroups were for, but now I see all use...

Searching

My provider has supplied me with the Entropy search engine. This works easy enough, but it only indexes pages on my site. It does not grab and index the phpbb threads as i had hoped. I understand that all a user has to do is go to the forum, then search on the forum to dig stuff up there.... but I n...

Today I decided to to a new tactic. I would just manualy remove urls from bogus spam posts, and then lock the thread to make an example of them.

Unfortunately I could not for the life of me find out where the lock thread button was hidden LOL.

I disabled the viewing of profiles of users who haven't been activated yet on my forum. Only the unactivated user (who made the profile) or the Administrator may view it. This prevents search engines from ever indexing the links that the spammers have placed in the website and signature fields, and...

I have Visual enabled. It did wonders at first, but seems through time it is becoming more and more ineffective. I assume someone out there must have already coded a bot that scans the images and automatically writes in the proper code. Either that or, phpbb doesn't change the imagefile names around...

What I do is edit the robots.txt to disclude the member list from getting indexed. This means those spammer's efforts are futile as they will never show up on google again. Good riddance!

Logging out idlers

I had a user mention to me that she would get logged out after being inactive for a while, so she'd have to re-log back in. I looked into the general admin panel and did not see a timer option for this sort of thing. Now I am curious if phpBB has such a feature, or if this user is just 'seeing' thin...

I just installed .19 recently. Never tried this mod out, but it looks like something that may aid some of my users. I have never used imageshack myself though.

I am wondering how the updates are for this mod and .19 users.

Ok, I guess might as well move this post over. I know some forums allow you to type something else to substitute for the link (display purposes), not sure if phpBB has this option built in either or not.
