Re: How do you guys search for parts in HTML files?

Haven't tried the second one, but WinMerge is pretty good for basic comparisons and edits.

Re: Has anyone tried using script defer with phpBB?

If it's not cached, it still has to be downloaded. Doesn't matter where it's coming from.

Re: Has anyone tried using script defer with phpBB?

Sure. An obvious one would be jQuery, as that's the biggest js file. Instead of the default, which is basically: <script src="{T_JQUERY_LINK}"></script> ...a bit more stuff... </body> You'd be using: <head> ...meta tags, etc... <script src="{T_JQUERY_LINK}" defer></script> That's the gist of it. Wha...

Re: image in posting areas...

That's not a bad way of looking at it. Effectively it would be like a custom.css file but, with no need to edit the template to call it. It'd be a good solution for anyone who wasn't comfortable editing templates. Although if the extension gets updated you would still be screwed if you didn't take a...

Re: image in posting areas...

In terms of what is rendered in the posting area, which was what the initial question was about, they are identical. The OP did not ask about the contact form.

Re: image in posting areas...

They're not an issue once they are cached in the browser. They are an issue on initial visit, or if you have had to clear cache (and yes, I have been running and analysing waterfalls, so I know exactly what they are doing). But even leaving aside the issue of caching times, it's still more convenien...

Re: Language For Styles / CSS Loading

But you can add a language to a style just by using the files that already exist. I've just given an example. Now sure, you may not be able to do all the translations yourself, but anyone who wants to use them will be able to do it.

Re: Language For Styles / CSS Loading

The question was to additionally capture smaller approaches to language in a style, possibly via (css). The actual CSS is already present in the stylesheet.css CSS is captured in English. Sure, but the original CSS for any ::before or ::after content can be put into theme/en/stylesheet.css, like th...

Re: image in posting areas...

I think when you get down to this level, and if you want to keep things as simple as possible for beginners, the best compromise is a custom.css that loads after {STYLESHEETS}. Anyone who could tie their own shoelaces could add that to their template if instructions were given. It's a handy way of a...

Re: image in posting areas...

Yes I understand that. My point was that all the extension does is add this: #message-box textarea { background: #FFFFFF url("./message.png") right bottom no-repeat; } Which is exactly the same (in terms of rendered result) as the code I gave: #message { background-image: url(path_to_your_image_goes...

Re: Language For Styles / CSS Loading

By Talk19Zehn's reference to the previous suggestion, I was expecting the intention was to leverage the language-specific CSS file like phpBB's prosilver already incorporates (./theme/en/stylesheet.css, ./theme/de/stylesheet.css, ./theme/fr/stylesheet.css, etc.). Such that "translation contribution...
