Any tips for how to start a successful new forum??

Hi all, I was wondering if you guys with established forums had any tips for us who are starting new forums? For those who have forums, how was it when you first started? Was it just friends who joined, how did you tell everyone about the forum? Did you post links or email people? Or was it word of ...

MySQL 4.1 and PHP 4.4 gave me all sorts of problems.

I switched to a different database and everything works.

No I have 2 domains and 2 (actually 5 IP's). With Tripod I used forwarding and it basically did this: anytime someone entered www.sns-squad.com it forwarded it to 69.93.192.226, thus allowing extensions and url paths to work. So if someone typed in www.sns-squad.com/phpBB2/index.php it took them to...

I can get into it, and it is changed. I am beginning to believe it is GoDaddy's fault. Cheap prices get get cheap quality. GoDaddy is working fine for me. Make sure you make the changes at goDaddy in the right area's. I believe what you want is the last option below Total DNS control. Somewhere the...

Webmaster websites?

Does anyone have links to websites that offer good information for webmasters, such as how google adsense works, or topics for getting a better result in search engines? Any good forums out there? As a new webmaster, I am looking to learn as much as I can. I will have a forum up and running soon, an...

This has me worried to.

I hope the team at phpBB does a security review of their code, and comes out with a new secure version.

I love phpBB, but if I get hacked, what is it worth? A lot of time and work will be gone.

Web server for phpbb2

I have apache running as my web server. It will work for 2 or 3 hours, then when I click to refresh a a page, i get a "connection lost" and the page goes blank. It seems to happen when a user with the same IP address looks at just one page. He comes back every 2 hours, and he never looks at more tha...

LOL, it worked, but there is one very large bug. New guests can not register. It appears that the same profile.php that is used to view a users profile is also used to register guests to members.

Any fixes?

if a security exploit is found, what should we do?

i was doing reading on the web on how to make apache/mysql/phpbb more secure and i found something.

should i post the link here, or does the development team want it given to them?

it appears there is an exploit that makes it easy to get the admin password of any phpbb forum.

I had the same problem... http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=318093&highlight= You need a STMP server, which is probably not on your machine. Whoever sold you the domain name you are using should also have a STMP server. Find out your username and password from them, and enter it into the co...

I don't know if this will help you... but in the ACP check your domain. I had that set to 127.0.0.1 (I think default), and when I tried to log in from the web, it made me log in over and over again. When I changed the 127.0.0.1 to my URL, it worked much better. No more multiple logins.
