Re: Discuss: Blog post about phpBB 3.0.6 plans

You quoted what i said... tiny list of new major features while maintenance releases will focus on bug fixes. This is nothing new... maintenance releases always focused on bug fixes. The only thing i mentioned is that you will always have bugs within the bug tracker not being fixed - for whatever re...

Re: Discuss: Blog post about phpBB 3.0.6 plans

If keeping up with bug fixes in a timely manner wasn't impeding feature additions and vice versa why did you feel the need to separate the two? I thought that was exactly why you decided to go that route.. What you think and our reasons for something often differ. There was no separation, there is ...

Re: Discuss: Blog post about phpBB 3.0.6 plans

Features and bug fixes do not contradict themselves. Every new release have seen bugfixes and we will never be able to fix all of the entered bugs - this is software development life in the real world.

Re: DNSBL/CAPTCHA and their supposed value preventing SPAM regs

Then you definitely use the wrong app! Although i do not agree that you can judge an application on the circumstance of having hundreds of hooks/injection points and one having not. But well, yes, solely based on this you will see that you always need to adjust phpBB's core code. :)

Re: DNSBL/CAPTCHA and their supposed value preventing SPAM regs

Hello Tom, the MOD is very related to this topic. He offers (a better version of) the feature we are talking about. And it's a phpbb.com MOD DB validated MOD, too. This is completely unrelated. If you discuss features explain them to those who do not want to install a MOD to get what you are talkin...

@Martin: Please discuss this without linking to Mods. ;) Instead, describe the functionality (without referring to the mod).

Re: Blog Post Discussion: 3.0.6 CAPTCHA plugins and you

Custom profile fields are already in the core. Are you saying that very few boards are using them as an anti-spam tool? You have to differentiate a bit here. ;) CPF as a required field, entered in a way to protect against automated registrations is not enabled by default in phpBB - therefore it can...

Re: PM to inactive users?

I will revisit this whole situation (inactive users, inactive reasons, banning) for 3.0.7 - but not for 3.0.6. ;) If done it needs to be done correctly, and the time does not permit this for 3.0.6 currently.

Re: PM to inactive users?

If I choose to change my email address and render my account disabled for 1 minute or 1 day or 1 week, that is my choice and I accept the fact that during that period of inactivity I should not be able to use any part of the board. The user has no choice here - the board dictates that the user is i...

Re: bot for posting on forum

There is an option for referer checks in phpBB: "If enabled, the referer of POST requests will be checked against the host/script path settings. This may cause issues with boards using several domains and or external logins." I am not sure if we should allow relative URIs within the referer, if they...

Re: PM to inactive users?

So now I've noticed that it is possible to send PM to deactivated users on my developement board. Is this true? Is this a bug? Or, what's the reason for this? Yes you can do this. You would have to ask the developers the reason. :) I do not know if this has already been answered here, but the reaso...

"Too many connections" downtime

Hi,

the last ~2 hours phpbb.com showed an error message about too many connections made to the database. We apologise for this downtime, it was caused by locked threads from another sites database hosted on the same database server as phpbb.com.

Thanks,
Meik.

Re: Possible 3.0.6 E-mail Notification Bug

We adjusted the subject line encoding to be fully RFC compliant - seems (as always) the theory is too far away from the real world and we need to switch back to the non-strictly-compliant way. :)

Re: Revision 9965 and bit stuff

Because we simply use a value for the constant. The same with the user options (although they come from an array).

There are the forum flags, the user options (includes/session.php) and the forum options now. :)
