Re: What's the best way to setup forums and permissions?

In general it's best to set one forum to have the permissions you want for all your groups, then when creating new forums make sure you select the option to copy the forum permissions from a forum that is set up the way you want. It's easy not to do this, in which case these forums have no roles ass...

Re: new to phpbb support -404 permissions issue

How does one increase the timeout ??? I'd feel better if it ran cleanly in one shot. I've got a 2hr window tomorrow night to cut the site over You may find the timeout issue goes away if you upgrade from the command line with SSH. Upgrades from 3.0 to 3.3 can be tricky, particularly on large boards...

Re: Failed upgrade from 3.2 to 3.3

I would suggest reuploading the vendor folder. It's possible some files or folders got missed contributing to the problem.

Re: I broke my site a bit

I think you need single quotes, not double, around those service arguments.

YAML files are very particular so never used a tab key in them, always the space bar.

Re: ReCaptcha v3 not working anymore

I added an issue in the tracker about this. Also another related one in that reCaptcha requires allow_url_open to be on, but it won't disable it if it's off.

Re: ReCaptcha v3 not working anymore

I encountered this issue with a client. It seems that when using http and calling https, it introduced a cross-site scripting issue. The solution was to install a security certificate and force HTTPS by adding some code in the board's .htaccess file. I also changed the server settings to create http...

Re: Looking for Message Board Expert

You can try changing your tables storage engines to InnoDB if MyISAM, if using MyISAM. If using MyISAM, you can also optimize tables with phpMyAdmin or similar tool. I discuss this in this post: https://www.phpbbservices.com/2015/12/02/changing-your-phpbb-table-storage-engine/ But it could be the un...

Re: Looking for paid support

Technically, no one in the phpBB community has credentials, since there is no phpBB certification to get (same with Wordpress). I can certainly do it if interested and do many of these a month for clients.

[split] Forum not working after host updated software.

I get this issue regularly with my clients. But iconv() sure looks like it's installed. When I look at PHP Information in the ACP it says: '--with-iconv' Does this mean it's compiled with PHP but not necessarily enabled? I've been getting around it by commenting out the trigger_error() statement in ...

Re: Finding language file string in extensions

Thanks for the suggestions. The language string in question should be front facing, as it's used in a /language/en/info_acp* file, but it is used outside of the ACP by being included in the front facing program as a language file. My client wants the ability to get notified whenever an ACP log entry...

Re: Finding language file string in extensions

Looking at the issue in more depth, I think it's because in some of my other extensions I was not placing positional language variables correctly, for example: 'LOG_ACP_FBC_BAD_ACCESS' => '<strong>Filter by country: %1s was denied board access from IP(s) %2s because access from country/countries “%3...

Re: Finding language file string in extensions

I pass the log service to the main_listener.php where the action happens. But these variables are definitely not in memory. I have been using $user->lang to get the data, which is what is used in /phpbb/log/log.php. Maybe $language->lang instead?

Finding language file string in extensions

I'm working on an extension that sends an email when an admin log entry is made. It works fine with the core because those language strings are loaded already in memory, but can't find language file strings in other extensions. So the literal language string appears in the email instead. I imagine I...

Re: Discuss: phpBB 3.3 Proteus Feature Release Published

Often there are newer versions of an extension in development, beta or whatever for a particular version of phpBB. Links are often in the discussion forum for the extension. Some extensions already have the services.yml file fixed. So there is no hard and fast rule, but if after uploading an extensi...
