Re: SMF 2.0.2 to phpbb 3.0.11

Could you provide a link to your board? Are the images available to download and are just not displaying as a thumbnail or are they not there at all? I assume the images were attachments in SMF?

Public Queue Statistics

What does everyone think about having some MOD validation queue statistics available for the public to view? For example, amount of MODs in the queue, average validation time, % that are approved etc. I ask because I've just submitted a couple of MODs and there is no estimation of when they will be ...

Re: Not comparing, but why phpBB is not #1 in forums softwar

When was this change made? Discussion Announcement To be fair, the fact that we are using Symfony components is somewhat hidden in the text of those links; someone just browsing the board would simply see the PHP version bump and might not read the actual reasoning behind it. Guilty, I knew about t...

Re: Not comparing, but why phpBB is not #1 in forums softwar

So does Ascreaeus? 3.1 uses more symfony components than Drupal 8. So that's why it's taken so long to get it out the door? Seriously though, I haven't been following development that closely for a while so I had no idea there are plans to start bringing components over. When was this change ...

Re: [Discuss] Custom BBCodes now available in the CDB

Hurray, a single topic for all the BBCodes was pretty unwieldy. I agree with Steve's point, ideally the validation on them should be nice and quick.

Re: Not comparing, but why phpBB is not #1 in forums softwar

I guess what I mean about that sentence is if PHPBB was more of a framework and the forum itself was a module within that framework. You'd be able to build custom systems much easier, and even build modules to work with other modules. Standard HMVC Or at least MVC for example would be a nice struct...

Re: Automod isnt actually writing files

What write method are you using to write the files? You can check this in the AutoMOD Configuration section of the ACP.

Re: Restrict User Registration by TimeZone

So, I understood that it would be better to ban IP, each time new spammers from other country and then delete the usernames of the spammer. Am I right? That's the way most people do it, combined with CAPTCHA usage. You can block entire ranges of IPs as well but that is sometimes a bit of a blunt in...

Re: Search in ACP

I actually really like this idea, discussion is probably best over at area51 in the Reinventing the ACP topic for 4.0. As has been mentioned in the topic before, this kind of thing really needs to be built from the start.

Re: [Request] Simple language change

Are you requesting a MOD for phpBB3 or would you like to see this as a feature built into phpBB future releases? If it's the latter you would need to go over to area51, phpBB's development location, and follow the instructions over there for setting up an RFC for phpBB 3.2/4.0.

Re: Restrict User Registration by TimeZone

When people realise this is happening, won't they simply use a timezone that allows immediate access?

A better way would be checking the IP of the user and basing the policy on that, it's harder (though not impossible) for users to change their location if checked from the IP they are using.

Re: Redirect new users to a "Beginners Welcome" topic

Glad to hear it is working well. I've made some changes, couple of bits I forgot to add first time around. I've also made it a bit clearer where you are being redirected to in the link on the confirmation page. Download 1.0.0 This is the version that I'll also send to the MODDB here. I've tested it ...

Re: Redirect new users to a "Beginners Welcome" topic

If you are using AutoMOD or prefer the layout of a MODX file I've also had a chance to write it all up for you. Download is here, let me know how you get on.
