Re: Redirect new users to a "Beginners Welcome" topic

Have written something quickly up for you. If you could try it out and see what you think, if it's suitable and works I'll write it up properly and submit to the MODDB so others can use it as well.

Re: Redirect new users to a "Beginners Welcome" topic

Sounds an interesting idea, might have a chance to put something together for you tonight.

A on/off toggle and the ability to set a URL to redirect to sounds like the best solution?

Re: Showing an external feed

What exactly are you trying to achieve? If you can explain a little more about what you want the feeds to do, where to be placed etc. we will be able to help you further.

If we're going to be pedantic, bbseek didn't say that the feature was important to him, he said "can it be done in phpBB too?" ;).

Re: phpBB vs. vBulletin

I wasn't referring to the collector/vintage mentality, but the driver's experience (including things like gauges, seating, etc.). Can you accept that some people might prefer that older style of car to newer ones? Sure, but if we all had that attitude towards things we'd all still be riding round i...

Re: phpBB vs. vBulletin

XenForo seems to be doing what phpBB did back in the day, create a quality product to serve a market that isn't being that well represented at the moment. I haven't had chance to have a proper look at XenForo admittedly but it looks a well polished product that would sit well in the high end consume...

Keep meaning to do some work on this, time is the issue as always. Might have a bit spare soon to get a basic MOD together, will keep you all posted.

Re: Converting from IPB 2.3.X TO PHPBB3

In that case you're going to find it basically impossible to convert your old board to your new board. You'd have to ask your phpBB3 host if they are able to convert it for you onto their systems, chances are they can't/won't. Unfortunately the only way would be to find a decent paid for host, insta...

Re: Converting from IPB 2.3.X TO PHPBB3

So, I need to upload my sql file into store folder and run the conversion? That's it? No, you need to make sure that the IPB database (that is currently in the SQL file) is inside a database on your host. This usually means taking the .sql file and uploading it via your hosting control panel into a...

Re: Converting from IPB 2.3.X TO PHPBB3

Do you have some web hosting for your new phpBB3 installation? If you do you need to upload the .sql file into a database on your web host to be able to complete the conversion. You can also do this on your own computer if you want, see http://www.phpbb.com/kb/article/offline-conversions/

Re: Standard/preferred way to add ACP settings with a MOD?

Would you like to add it to an existing page of the ACP or a new one?

If you'd like the latter you can create an ACP module with all your settings in it, see http://wiki.phpbb.com/Using_the_phpBB3.0_Module_System

Re: someone

I don't know of a specific MOD that has this functionality but you might be able to use the word censoring feature of phpBB. It wouldn't stop the sentences from being posted, but it would replace them with something of your choice.

Re: Converting from IPB 2.3.X TO PHPBB3

You need to use the IPB 2.3.x converter which can be found here.

To start with, have a full read of the Converter FAQ which will give you some information on what you need to do to start the conversion process. If you don't understand bits of it or need some more assistance then post back.
