Re: Global announcements invisible to ordinary users

I'm still having problems with this one. I set up a test board with a fresh install of RC5. I then installed the latest versions of these mods on the test board and had no problems at all with the global announcements. Incidentally, the authors of the mods have been unable to reproduce the problem t...

Re: [Request]Latest Active Topics On Index

Yes, I would like to see this too. I've switched from phpb 2.0.22 to phpbb3 RC4 and a number of users have complained about the lack of a scrolling marquee. I thought the "view active topics" link was an adequate replacement - but a lot of my users disagree! I understand zparta, author of the origin...

Re: Global announcements invisible to ordinary users

Will give it a try, but not for a few days as I'm heading away for a few days. Thanks for the tip. I'll also bring this to the mod author's attention. He may already have a solution to it and I just missed it (it's happened before  ).

Re: Global announcements invisible to ordinary users

Ok, that is the problem right there. Global announcements require a forum ID to be in the URL to be displayed reliably. OK, but why does it always get diverted to forum 10? I have opted to keep forum names out of the rewritten URLs as it makes them too long and also because topics quite often get m...

Re: Global announcements invisible to ordinary users

OK, I've put up a test Global Announcement at **topic now deleted** As you can see, the board uses mod rewrite to generate 'friendly' URLs. I have opted to leave the subforum details out of URLs, which has not affected the operation of normal posts in any way. Once again, it now seems to 'reside' in...

Re: Global announcements invisible to ordinary users

It's still happening with the zero dupe switched off and the mods forum number is 10, while there are other forums with a lower number, so I'm not sure that is the cause of the problem.

Re: Global announcements invisible to ordinary users

I have a feeling it is a bug in the Zero Dupe MOD. The MOD seems to be directing users to the moderator-only forum to view this particular announcement, so they are denied access. Can you give me some idea why you think this particular mod is causing the problem? I've raised it with the mod's devel...

Re: Signatures links ban not being enforced

Did your users have links in their signatures before you updated and before you set it to do as such? I had wondered if it was something that did not affect pre-existing signatures - but it still seems to have no effect even when new sigs have been added after the setting was made. I think the prob...

Signatures links ban not being enforced

My RC4 board is set to disallow links in signatures but they are still being parsed anyway. Should I submit this as a bug? For the time being I have disallowed signatures altogether. My main concern is being seen as a link farm by Google. If there is an easy way to set a 'nofollow' tag on all sig li...

Re: Global announcements invisible to ordinary users

"MySQL returned an empty result set (i.e. zero rows). (Query took 0.0140 sec)"

The board does have three mods: phpbb-seo's advanced mod rewrite and zero dupe, plus one to show topic titles on the index.

Global announcements invisible to ordinary users

I've looked through all the documentation and can't see what is causing this. When I try posting a Global Announcement, it appears above each forum - but the content can only be viewed by admins and moderators. When I go in to edit it, it appears to be in my moderators' forum. If I move it to a new ...

Re: [RC2] Visitors Today (1.0.4)

Hi, I'm sorry if I'm being a bit stupid here, but I don't know how to manually edit my files to make this work on my RC4 board. I can't use the pre-modded files as I already have modifications on my board (such as phpbb-seo's friendly URLs mod and zero-dupes mod), so I need to do it manually. But I ...

Re: Running slightly slower in phpbb3 than phpbb2

Not to sound rude or anything, but are you really sure it's taking longer for pages to load? It may take a little longer when you first start browsing, etc. for the cache to be generated. After that it should be very fast. Yep, I'm positive, I've tried a lot more posts now just to check whether it ...

Running slightly slower in phpbb3 than phpbb2

I'm finding that pages take slightly longer to load in phpbb3 than 2.0.22 on my host's server. Turning GZip on or off doesn't seem to make that much difference. Is it anything to do with my host still running php4 while phpbb3 is optimised for php5? Any tweaks I can try to perk it up a bit? The phpb...
