Re: what exactly is Gzip compression and how do i use it?

It can also make the board appear to render faster for end users, because it is transferring less (usually less than half) the data. This especially makes a difference for users with slow connections.

What triggers responsive mobile format?

What in the new PHPBB version triggers the board to select responsive formatting for mobile devices? I have iPad users who are telling me the site looks terrible. Testing on Chrome, emulating iPads, the site appears in mobile mode. But testing on an actual iPad, the site renders in non-mobile deskto...

Re: Registration/password problem under MSSQL [SOLVED]

don't know much about this but it seems to me if this was really a problem others would have it as well. actually, if it has been that way for a long time, anyone using mssql would have had the problem. luck, robert I just did a restore of my old 3.0.11 database into a blank test database and had a...

Re: Registration/password problem

double apostrophe means "empty string" Yes and no. SELECT * FROM phpbb_users WHERE user_newpasswd = '' means "return all records that have user_newpasswd set to an empty string. However, if you WANT to put an apostrophe in, you need to use a double apostrophe: UPDATE phpbb_users SET ...

Re: Registration/password problem

Does the user_newpasswd column in your phpbb_users table have a default value? It does: a double apostrophe (which in SQL means single apostrophe). So does user_password. I removed this default value for both fields, and it fixed the problem. Thank you! So does this mean there is a problem with the...

Re: Registration/password problem

I did a test looking at the database (SQL Server 2008) to see what is happening. When the user registers originally, the record in phpbb_users table has the following values: user_password: $2y$10$dsy5Mjn/Owjz2/N1yXuTuOy50fG0aPjaI8fKukLDtrT6WIwz2dC1K user_inactive_reason: 1 user_inactive_time: 14236...

Registration/password problem under MSSQL [SOLVED]

I have a problem with my board that I recently converted to 3.1.3 from 3.0.x. I have my board set up for email activation. When a user registers, they are sent an email with the link to activate their account. When they click on this link, it takes to them to the board where it tells them that their...

Re: database_update.php for boards with millions of posts

You shouldn't be editing the installation files. Running the update from the web browser or the CLI is the recommended method from the teams. Understood. The original poster was asking if there was a way to not have to click the "Continue upgrade" button hundreds of times in order to upgr...

Re: database_update.php for boards with millions of posts

Here's the method I used. Open /forum/install/database_update.php in an editor. Find the following line (in my 3.12 it's on line 226): echo '<a href="' . append_sid($phpbb_root_path . 'install/database_update.' . $phpEx, 'type=' . $request->variable('type', 0) . '&language=' . $request->var...

Re: User on Chrome Android experience text size problems

I get the exact same thing happening to me when reading on Android Chrome on my board, also using unmodified ProSilver. This is an example of where it happens - viewing this thread on Chrome in Android, the first message in the topic uses tiny font, the rest is normal. It does not happen on every th...
