Re: Getting subforums ID recursively

This is the nested set model , which allows you to determine the depth by looking at the left and right ids. Try googling for "nested set" to get more information. Here are two good blog posts on the subject: http://www.phpbbdoctor.com/blog/2008/07/29/working-with-recursive-data-part-i-tab...

Re: Same Threads with Different URLs

The 'f' parameter is required for global announcements, since you can be in any forum when viewing them. phpBB3 always produces URLs including the 'f' parameter, so that's the one you want to use.

Re: UMIL 2.0 - What do you want to see?

Ideally the upgrade script would handle the uninstallation of the previous version. In general such things should go into the MOD authors notes of the MODX file.

Re: Sandboxedness of phpBB

phpBB provides this kind of sandboxing to some extent. But there are certain trouble areas, such as editing templates (founder-only) and database restore. Creating custom BBCodes is also a potential issue (XSS) if he is on the same domain as your stuff. So while we do our best to prevent administrat...

Can you provide an example case where this would be MOD specific?

Old versions of dreamweaver appear to have that option:

Are you sure there is none in CS5?

Re: Discuss: Blog "Explaining Hooks"

Having MODs adding hooks could be a disaster, probably even worse than the current MODding system when it comes to conflicts. Petitioning to have a hook added to the core would be possible, of course. While using an existing hook is always better than adding a custom one, I don't really see any pro...

Re: Use $db on second database

If you're using MySQL it's possible to do:

Code: Select all

SELECT * FROM database.table
If not, you'll need to instantiate a second db object. You can see how it's done in common.php.

Re: Negative conditional statements? "comments"

Is there a default system in phpBB for something to be on or off? ie: 1 or 0, 0 being disabled and 1 being enabled? You can do IFs just like you would in PHP. So basically 0, '0', false and '' (empty string) evaluate to false, pretty much anything else evaluates to true. I've also looked everywhere...
