Re: Encrypting config.php

just one or the other and hopefully the one will be files since those are backed up more often!!! Why is the DB not being backed up regularly. I have a cron job on my server running every 12 hours with 2 weeks of backups kept at a time - I backup one copy of those as often as I can - at least once ...

Re: Encrypting config.php

glad you recovered from the hack. I bet they did not hack you because your confi.php file shows the database password in plain text. :P sorry, couldn't resist. robert actually the last (and we think only) time we were hacked.... the DB was untouched as far as we were able to tell. Now we are just t...

Re: Encrypting config.php

I guess you guys are not gamblers at all. I believe in playing the odds. I also believe in not worrying. I don't remember who said it, but I always liked this quote: "99% of the things we worry about will never happen and 99% of that remaining 1% are things we can't do anything about so worrying is...

Re: Encrypting config.php

I understand but if you're wondering what use it is it's not necessarily about someone hacking in that really wants to hack in. You can have something as simple as people that legitimately have access to your ftp (to work on site etc.) but when they also stumble onto a password they are tempted to ...

Re: Encrypting config.php

or you could not worry about it. if someone gets ftp access to your server, then your phpbb database password is the least of your worries. this is the way phpbb has been setup for ever, and I have heard of no problems with it in the past. robert well.. if they get FTP access then they most likely ...

Re: Encrypting config.php

Dog Cow wrote:Well.... you could invent your own password encrypting formula, encrypt the password in config.php via it, and then have another function that decrypts it when you go to connect to the database.
Thanks for the idea.. I would not know how to do this. any other ideas?

Re: Encrypting config.php

None that I've heard of. You can use an .htaccess file to deny access to the file from anywhere except an FTP client...unless that's what you're trying to protect from. that would help.. but we would also like to protect from someone getting to it via FTP. could you tell me how to protect it using ...
