Say if today, some IBM super-geek figured out a way to cram, let's say, 16 GB on a single square centimeter chip (for 16 chips on a single RAM stick, that would total a 256 GB stick). But if only 1% of the United States population/companies could actually afford it, it's not a very good standard, ev...

What I meant by that was if you bought an average-priced new computer in each of those years, that's how much RAM would usually come with them, even if there was potential to add much more. ie: the average new computer sold in 1993 would have 4 MB of RAM, even though the motherboard could be upgrade...

The 640 KB limit: 1981 to 1995, 14 years The 4 GB limit: 1985 to maybe 2008, 23 years The 16 EB limit: 2003 to 2??? The first DOS computer offered 64 KB RAM, 10% of the limit Old 386 computer, 2 MB RAM, about 0.05% of the limit Early AMD64 computers, 256 MB RAM, about 0.000000001% of the limit Traci...

64-bit computing

Consider the phrase that Bill Gates supposedly said: "640 KB ought to be enough for anybody!" during the early days of DOS. Around 1993, 640 KB of RAM was getting rather small. Even in the late 80s, some software had trouble working within the 640 KB limit and needed EMS in order to have more RAM th...

I support Israel. But hopefully it doesn't get too insane. It is sad to see the heavy-handed destruction. Nonetheless Israel would need to kick some serious ass if it is ever to show these Arabs that they shouldn't do the things they do (suicide bombs, kidnappings, etc.). Killing people and blowing ...

Drathbun: As a DOS user, I can sympathize with the need to allow the old to drag down the new. And yes, if you really want to ensure that the fewest numbers of people are left behind, then you would use antique resolution(s). But then you'd have to make several other accomodations, like keeping your...

One thing that the majority might agree is that 640x480 is obsolete.

800x600 should be obsolete within a year or two.

With monitor sizes rather stagnant, 1024x768 should be the normal standard for many years to come.

If you're going to have a "powerful" computer, you really want more memory. Oh, and remember Vista still has lots of debugging stuff in there because it's still in beta. Yeah right, spend hundreds of dollars on upgrades just to satisfy Vista's insatiable appetite!? Upgrades that I don't need for ab...

While I understand that the phpBB group doesn't want to be held to a date, or want to raise false hopes to its faithful members, it might be helpful to give a timeframe of sorts: Example: "phpBB 3.0 should be ready on February 5, 2007. However, it is possible that delays can happen, and there is no ...

Cartoonish feeling

phpBB's interface, while I really like it, seems all so bubbly and cartoon-like. Was this effect intentional?

Fair enough. Nephrus's rebuke is more understandable now.

But at least a few people could enjoy it. :D

If you don't have anything to contribute to this topic, please don't post. Thanks! But I did contribute to the topic. It's a subliminal message. Sorry if it seemed to you nothing more than useless gibberish. To explain for those that don't understand it, the first line was "phpBB is really cool for...
