are all deleted, rc2 has no deveper folder anyway, config.php is chmodded to 444 or 644 (forget) and I've htaccessed the admin folder. I think its reasonably secure. 444 is readable by everyone.. so anyone who has an account on your machine can read your database login and password. I'd rather chow...

Oops! I didn't want to criticize anyone of the developers.. I repeatedly stated that you've done a great job with phpBB! :D What I would really like to see is a sort of API with functions like: phpBB_post(subject, text, user_id, forum_id) So you can include a set of library files and call tha...

I'm having a look at that file right now.. it's a real mess..
Now I'm trying to take the main three SQL query and build them on my own.. it's going to be a bit trickier than I wanted to, but maybe I can go with them until someone of the developers of phpBB2 decide to make a sort of API.

Wrapper functions

is there anyone who has a good grasp on how the code of phpBB2 works that can tell me if there's a function like "post_a_message" that gets parameters like the forum_id, user_id, etc and then inserts it into the DB?

I know it lacks documentation :)

There's a README that explains in a very fast way how to setup the sample applications.
But if you need help, just mail me your questions and I'll help you.

I finally got around releasing something and setting up the project on SourceForge. You can have a look at my Portal API framework at https://sourceforge.net/projects/portalapi/ in order to check for some of the ideas I described before. What I'm going to do next is to fix all the bugs that are stil...

I guess I'll be able to show you something at the end of this week. I'm using my own personal site as a model to replicate using my new framework.

It would be better if you wait for v2 final since it's going to have an automatic upgrade script.

Today SourceForge is having some problems.. and I lost all the message I wrote you.. damn! I'll summarize it again now. I want to clean the code up a bit and package it in order for you to have a look at. But the main problem is that all the portals made with it have been made for our customers and ...

hints for the portal

I have been following the discussions about the portal and now I'm going to give yoy my 2 cents. I've been developing both intranet and internet portals in the last few years and I've got a good grasp of what's involved in this kind of work. The first thing you really need is a strong framework buil...

I would do the opposite.
Treat the news the same way as the articles and insert them as messages in the board.

I ain't got time to explain the reasons ritght now but I'll elaborate later on ;)

I'd just eliminate auto_increment from every table and use a select max(id)+1 instead.
I guess you're already doing this for the PostgreSQL version, no?

There will be an upgrade script from v1.4.2 to 2.0 final, but there's not going to be any script to upgrade from the 2.0 beta to 2.0 final.

I understand that anybody having access to your webserver can make troubles with your avatars deleting and replacing them.

But it's still the best choice for performance, unless you're using Oracle which offers quite good performances even with BLOBs.
