Need a fix for post processing flaw on all phpBB boards

When a short post is made that includes stop-words and lacks words that would be added to the search tables, the post takes a long time to process and the query interferes with available cpu. Sample post: "Me too!" Time to process on this board today, 90+ seconds. Other posts today, under 10 seconds...

He is likely an admin. If he edits someone else's post, nothing will appear. Quite useful to have it there. Some other forums have a config option of including an edited by in all posts (there may be a certain editing time -- I think I added a limit editing time hack).

Query hangups with short stop-worded posts -- replicable

Hey, I just realized one of the things that drags my board down is posting short posts with no words that would be applied to the searchword list/searchword match tables. I imagine this is a function of how the search table is processed and built. My post on this board was "Me too". 'Me' is too shor...

If I remember right, this is often a cookie path problem. Dig around and maybe change your settings.

For what it's worth I have nothing in this box:
Cookie domain -- remove www.

Cookie name:
forumsmysql

Path:
/

cookie secure: disabled.

There's a time limited editing mod that is pretty simple to add. You might want to try it. Somebody deleted all his posts on a board I admined a few years back. What a pain. I give people 10 or 15 minutes on my board and that's it. Keeps things honest. Mods and admins can still edit. It's possible t...

Something that size would also do fine with a mid to large sized vps (virtual private server). Go check out www.webhostingtalk.com for leads to good companies. I'm using a midsized vps and have more users, larger database, etc. Not using much bandwidth because I don't do attachments. Maybe 5 or 600 ...

starfoxtj, the ../config.php you suggested worked great. I feel better sticking it in a password protected file. Some time when you have nothing better to do, it would be cool to add a mass delete function of inactive users. Oh, except it could be a dangerous tool if misused. What you have is handy ...

Thanks for the tip. I still can't get it to work though -- say I have a password protected admin folder. What would I do to get it to work from that location?

Would be:

No advice. Just sympathy. These days backups are increasingly important. Have the person who runs the site carefully choose someone who is religious about backing up data on a daily basis.

I'm sorry this happened to you.

Hey, cool. We have our TRS-80 up in the attic. I don't remember if it even had any passwords. :-(
[note, asked mate -- said it didn't use any]

Thanks so much. Simple and effective.

p.s. I love to use Textpad for this sort of search/replace. It is a very powerful text editor.
