Re: Disable Select bbcode

Yeah, I thought about that but haven't come up with a good answer yet.

On my FileNet forum, I get a huge amount of registrants from other countries where English is not a primary language. I want to make it as easy for them to register as possible, while making it difficult for the bots.

Grrrr.....

Re: Is phpBB up with the times?

Why they are not in the default installation? Installing mods is very complex. Having worked with PHPbb, Mambo (a.k.a. Joomla!), Drupal (which forms the basis of my home site) and others, I can say that PHPbb is probably the most robust for forum and discussions. It can be a pain to install mods, w...

Re: Disable Select bbcode

Just an update - I've placed this on two sites now and am thoroughly impressed. I have had no issues registering normal users and have removed the spambots. I didn't realize those were bots attacking me, I thought they were hired guns from all sorts of countries. Now on to the job of actually making...

Re: Disable Select bbcode

Well, I'm impressed. I've had the least amount of spam in two years.

I chose the question, how many days in a week.

I wanted to ask what the meaning of life, the universe and everything was, but I wasn't sure how many people would type 42.

Re: Disable Select bbcode

Well, I added that mod. We'll see how it goes. It was tough to come up with a set question that will have an easy answer.

Re: Disable Select bbcode

Oh, this is just one portion of my defense. I've got the captcha turned on, I have user validation (I dont' have time for admin validation), I have various emails blocked, various ips blocked, and I check several times a day for new users. I have noticed several new users putting in the img tag. I c...

Disable Select bbcode

I've searched and cannot find anything - I'd like to selecively disable bbcode on my forum. For example, I want to remove all [img] and [url] tags. The quote, code, list.. tags are all fine. Where is the code stored for this? I can go in and edit the .tpl / .php files if needed. Today's a good a day...

Re: Updates for 2.0.x??

Thanks all.

I have the notice that I'm up to date - it just seemed a very long time since the last update. For awhile, I was updating every few months it seemed.

Updates for 2.0.x??

I was just looking at the admin of my sites and noticed that the last update for my site was quite some time ago. I'm currently on 2.0.22 on all sites.

Is that the last version?

Re: Banlist

I have the ban control mod. It allows me to ban emails *@spamdomain.com, usernames and IP addresses or ranges. I often will simply ban the Class C of a spammer in the control - 255.255.*.* - which works pretty well. Only a few times have I banned an entire group. Once I banned the entire goverment o...

I kind of freaked out there for a second, wondering what I'd done wrong.

I should make a note that - updating many of the spam modifcations - has caused a severe reduction in the amount of spam registrations I've been getting. My only issue was to be a little more careful in banning IP ranges. I ended up blocking the IP range for someone who had been registered for a few...

No, it won't. They don't stay around long enough. I have a board where you can't enter the web site during registration, and you can't even enter the web site after activation until you have a certain number of posts, and it does not keep the spam away. Wild, isn't it? I was half thinking of taking...
