Create your new forum (Admin Control Panel> Forum> Management), and then go to Forum>Permissions and choose your level of privacy/hiddenness from the drop down list. As far as I know there isn't any other way, because if someone changes their username and email, and their ip address isn't constant, there's no other way to identify them

You can use *@email.com if that helps.

Thanks - I've done all that, and have a private forum, but I'd like a private category rather than just forum, so that I can have several forums within the category.

I know it's possible, because I've seen it done on other sites. :?
