Re: Bandwidth vs forum size

Thanks a lot guys, very helpful!

Going through my admin settings, I also noticed I have gzip compression OFF. Will switching this ON make any significant difference? Also is there ANY risk to the database by switching this on?

Thanks a lot!

Re: Bandwidth vs forum size

yes, a good point! Yes i do have a robots.txt, but mainly restrict graphics from being spidered, as the posts SHOULD be spidered as it brings in a lot of new people... The majority of members found the forum when searching for information...

Re: Phpbb Upgrade: Loose old links and search results?

So the links will probably still work, but as far as the search engines are concerned, they are different urls, so you may may lose temporary SERPS...

Re: Bandwidth vs forum size

Thanks for the reply, I feel a bit more confident it's genuine now...

I'm in Australia, and bandwidth is a lot more expensive there... so plans tend to be smaller as well. I would prefer to stay on Australian servers, but I might have to consider US based, as these tend to be considerably cheaper...

Re: Bandwidth vs forum size

Thank you for your reply! Yes my question is indeed about bandwidth, not about phpbb2. I don't believe my host is trying to mislead me, I simply have NO IDEA if the bandwidth I'm using is to be expected for my current forum size (that I described)... I don't have the knowledge to determine for mysel...

Bandwidth vs forum size

I'm running a fairly active phpbb 2 forum, which has been growing steadily. The bandwidth (traffic) according to my service provider (and AWstats) is almost 50Gb per month, which seems an awefull lot to me... I have no idea if this is to be expected for the size forum that I run, or if something els...

Archiving daily posts - option exist?

I'm looking for a way of archiving all the posts made during a day, and have this hosted at another url. This way I can adjust my robots.txt so that search engines only index the archive, and leave the main forum alone... I've got a few good reason for doing this, and I was wondering if 3.0 had a wa...

Moving posts

I've been searching for a mod that can move posts (not topics), but I cannot find it?

I get it so often that people post in the wrong secttion or topic, and I want to be able to just move the individual post...

Is there a mod out there that can do this?

Cheers!

Adding a simple link or icon

I'm running an (almost default) PHPbb table tennis forum (see sig). I would like to add a simple link or icon in the title bar, or some place where it's visible on all pages. Not having any experiece with php, i was hoping there may be a mod out there that would make this easy. I have searches in th...

Cheers!
