Mod for make'ing new usernames more restrict

Hallo,
I need a modification which will allow me to put more strict username policy. Currently there is a huge amount of special characters available. I want allow only letters, numbers and maybe _ character. I can write it myself but im curious if there is already something like this?

Regards

Re: phpBB tweaks for large forums

Well if functionality of summoning post by id would have to go: http://www.forum.com/viewtopic.php?p=3837214#3837214 If you reffering to link like above, this is serious disadvantage. Im curious if this could be resolved somehow to not loose this functionality or replace it by similiar method. Soon ...

Re: phpBB tweaks for large forums

Dog Cow indeed 'moving function' should be rewrited like that. Thing which stops me from trying that whole theory of splitting table to make it analyze less records is hardiness of rewriteing so many things at once and not makeing any mistake which would be terrible thing in production environment. ...

Re: phpBB tweaks for large forums

This is nice idea Dog Cow, make new tables for new posts/topics greater than X id, this will speed up things a lot. One problem is that, when we change in writing new topics to put them in new tables (for ex. id >= 100.000) we must change then viewforum to handle this. Im not exactly sure how at the...

Re: phpBB tweaks for large forums

I really think lately about archivizing old posts. When we move topic from one forum named "Requests" (topics 229151 posts 1007039) to "trash" forum (topics 89534 posts 205765) mysql must do huge job of counting posts from both forums, then recount etc. My point is that, mysql must go trought 1.2 mi...

Re: phpBB tweaks for large forums

Syntax is less important here : p, but i guarantee in mysql 5.x syntax like this: SET forum_posts = forum_posts - ".$counted_posts_id_from_moved_topic ." works fine. Idea is that, why counting forum posts from beggining, when we can decrease this value by number of posts moved out. Same thing when w...

Re: phpBB tweaks for large forums

Ok tested it several times, and now finally in production environment, everything working like charm :) couple times faster but still... SELECT COUNT(*) AS total FROM phpbb_posts WHERE forum_id = 5; This can take long, so why counting again all posts from specific forum, when we can just grab posts_...

Re: phpBB tweaks for large forums

2,772,233 posts, all slow down is caused by one query from this sync function/ We must remember we use sync function twice, first FROM forum we move topic and then again TO forum we place it finally. So when im moving topic from small forum (from tutorials 810 topics/9689 posts to trash forum 70725t...

Re: phpBB tweaks for large forums

Good idea, i will use tonight heap table instead of txt files. Btw i got same problem from ~4 pages ago. I found there work-around but i wasn't sure if it would not cause problems. Problem is when some moderator want to move a topic, operation would take 0.0x sec but its taking even 20-60 seconds (!...

Re: phpBB tweaks for large forums

Dog Cow interesting, only bad thing is that you must rebuild whole database structure with another mod. Im not remember exactly if someone do it or not, but im slipped today this query to cron: SELECT f.*, p.post_time, p.post_username, u.username, u.user_id, u.user_rank, u.user_posts FROM (( phpbb_f...

Error, duplicate entry

This error shows very rarely, when we want search something. Only temporary solutions is to relog self on site and there is no more this error. It is very rare to someone catch this error but it happen, what this could be? Could not insert search results DEBUG MODE SQL Error : 1062 Duplicate entry '...

Re: phpBB tweaks for large forums

There's A LOT of tweaks here, you will gain 300-600% speeed overall but it require some compromises for example...

Re: phpBB tweaks for large forums

Np, im glad i can help. Quick optimization of above mentioned query: mysql> SELECT group_name FROM phpbb_groups WHERE LOWER(group_name) = 'Moderator'; +------------+ | group_name | +------------+ | Moderator | +------------+ 1 row in set (0.18 sec) As speaked earlier about same case in LOWER(usernam...
