Re: [Tutorial] How to use phpMyAdmin

Hi Thundercrew,
The easiest way (I think) is something like
<?php
if(ISSET your_cookie){
do the database connection;
do the database query;
do whatever else with the data;
.......;
}
?>
(Sorry, the post doesn't show the indents!)
Hope that helps.

Oh, ok. Thanks for that, Chris. I'll stop worrying and learn to live with them.

All these bots!!??

Hi, I just upgraded a couple of forums to phpBB3, and it's very nice and smooth, etc, etc, but looking at the users table of the database, suddenly I have 50 bots as registered users! Thay all have identical user regdates, so were they placed there as part of the installation?? I understand that the...

Re: Reducing server load?

Scary!
If it looks normal I think the first thing I'd do is turn off mail() and see if that helps. I'd be really worried that someone has hijacked some part of the functionality.

Re: Time Problem

If you're still having trouble with this one, you might want to try changing the timezone setting in your php.ini file. date.timezone=europe/moscow (Complete list of timezones: http://php.net/manual/en/timezones.php .) if you don't have root access so you can't edit php.ini, then you can put a line ...

Re: Save topics and answers

I think you just need to back up and restore, except you back up the old forum, restore in the new one.

Re: installing on debian

I've done this. I can't actually remember all the details, but I certainly CAN remember that you need to edit a couple of config files before your LAMP setup will actually DO anything! On of them, maybe the mysql config file, my.cnf, you need to set networking to 'on' and I'm pretty sure there's ano...

Re: Change post author?

I think only by editting the mySQL database. If you've got access to this with maybe phpmyadmin or SQLYOG I think you can just change the 'poster_id' field in the 'phpbb_posts' table from your admin id to your ordinary user id. Better take a back-up first, though - I don't have any garrantees!

Yup, definitely the way to go. If you haven't got full control of the database account and ftp access to the hosting you've got no chance, imo. With only 50-odd members, it won't be hard to tell them all if you decide to change hosting completely. As far as spam goes, textual confirmation's doing it...

Yes, but it's the google policy that keeps the spammers spamming. If everybody could keep their forum out of google with a robots.txt that would work too, but it would need a million people to do the right thing :wink: Dave Personally, I've changed cpuser_register.php so that it just says "Email me ...

I don't know about bigdump. I just migrated a forum from one host to another and I installed a new copy of phpBB2 in the new site (I upgraded to 2.0.22 while I was about it), then used phpmyadmin to export the database content one table at a time as sql statements, data but not structure. Then I use...

Aren't we going at this from the wrong end? I think the reason spambots register is to improve their google position by getting a lot of referring sites fast. If we could get Google to somehow not count referring sites if they are forums the problem would disappear at once.
