Re: Centralised banned IP list?

A while back there was a service started by some current and former team members here called "bbProtection" that allowed board owners to subscribe to a central spam-fighting service. Think of it as aKismet for phpBB and you're not far off. :) I had a chance to talk to some of the folks in...

Re: Centralised banned IP list?

Whoah. I didn't expect this much of a response. So I'll just reply to the one topic most relevent to what I was raising. I am amazed at all the anti spam topics that are created. Sorry, I didn't see any topics that discussed a centralised spam list. If you are using phpBB3 then it is not an issue at...

Centralised banned IP list?

My forum is becoming a target for spam-bots. They've been getting past the captcha, making a few posts, then disappear. I've been taking note of the IP, e-mail and username used by the bots, but I don't expect to see any repeats to be worth creating a ban on them. Most forums must be targetted by th...

Re: Create sticky shadow topic?

If you keep the "moved" topic, the one in the second forum will redirect to the one in the first forum. Yeah, but the moved topic won't itself be sticky. Could it be done safely with some DB trickery? i.e. Setting the appropriate flags for a moved topic in the DB. You don't need to answer...

Create sticky shadow topic?

I would like a topic on my forum appear in 2 forums where they'll both be sticky. Is there way to do this, or do something similiar? I don't want the topic to appear in every forum and I don't want the topic to be a copy since I want all replies to be in the same place.

Re: Variable for URL to phpBB installation?

That's exactly what I needed. Thanks.

Are these functions documented somewhere or is it just a matter of knowing where to look?

Re: ACP Mod - Where should generated text files be stored?

Ah, thankyou. This has worked charm. Thanks for your guidance. I would never have thought to use a mode to generate the text file.

Re: Variable for URL to phpBB installation?

Ok, this is what I'm using

Code: Select all

$url = $config['server_protocol'].$config['server_name'].$config['script_path'];
I'm not sure if I'll need to check the value of $config['script_path'] to see if I need to append a "/" for when I extend the URL to include a file/folder.

Variable for URL to phpBB installation?

I need to use a full URL (protocol, host and path) to a file in a module I'm writing. To make sure the module is portable I need to ensure the URL is correct on all installations of phpBB. Is there a variable that is set that I can for the host and path of phpBB that I can trust to always be correct?

Re: ACP Mod - Where should generated text files be stored?

Unfortunately, I can't set the header content type. I think the template code must override it. If I don't define $this->tpl_name I get the error: General Error template->_tpl_load_file(): File ./style/.html does not exist or is empty Is there a trick to get around this? It doesn't really matter if ...

Re: ACP Mod - Where should generated text files be stored?

Won't this upset the module? I found that the mode needed a template file to be loaded otherwise phpBB reported an error.

I probably need to use the header code anyway--but I think I have to still specify a template file.

Re: ACP Mod - Where should generated text files be stored?

Don't answer that. I really should have looked at how modules worked before asking. What i've done is create an acp style that doesn't include any files and uses only one template variable to create the plain text mode. The plain text template file is loaded only for that mode, otherwise all other m...

Re: ACP Mod - Where should generated text files be stored?

I don't see why you are generating text files anyway. Why don't you just generate them in the ACP module? You just add a new "text" mode and have the swf call that. No need to write to any files at all. This is the kind of suggestion I was looking for :) But I don't quite get how it would...
