Re: What is the future of forum culture? /or/ Does anyone else miss the days of forum-dominated internet discussion?

Joel Spolsky asked the same question on the latest stack overflow podcast. https://stackoverflow.blog/2021/01/01/podcast-300-welcome-to-2021-with-joel-spolsky/ For a large part, casual conversation has moved from boomer book to platforms like Discord. Boomer book doesn't have "get something use...

Flash: So long and thanks for all the lulz

https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/end-of-life.html Flash player is no longer supported as of a few days ago and will no-longer play content in a few days time. It's been a long time coming since Steve Jobs mocked flash and held up HTML5 as the replacement that would be supported on the iPho...

Use something like Synergy and RDP to rip in and simplify your work environment. (or this)

Anyway, here is what mine would look like, if I were still there.

Absolutely shocking software. Spaghetti ASP code, slow, full of security issues. The forum no-longer exists.

Re: how many forum posts are a lot?

I would say that trying to obtain an objective measure from a subjective term is futile. As you can already see, not one person has agreed as to what "big" is. Big-boards is probably the best way to determine, "have I made it?" in terms of being relevant as a popular bulletin boa...

phpBB3 should handle that load without lifting a finger. 70 MB is a small database
If they can't tell you more about why they are suspending you, I would find a different host

Re: Discuss: Online MODX Creator

Great utility, it's good to see the MODX ecosystem flourish <Aside> MODX actually supports the full letter code PLUS modifiers as phpBB3 core itself does. The languages drop down in MODX supports both simplified and traditional http://www.phpbb.com/mods/modx/i18n/languages.txt zh - simplified (phpBB...

Re: Please advise for a good video converter

WMV9 Advanced Profile (WVC1) uses VC-1 Latest Quicktime MOV format uses h.264, can also be used in an MPEG-4 AVC container. Youtube uses h.263 in a flv container which isn't as good as the two above high-definition formats. Personally I think h.264 delivers superior quality low-bit-rate video compar...

Re: To what extent would you protect your site?

Umm, copyright laws are there to protect everyone. From there it is only a matter of much much time and money you want to spend enforcing copyright. Obviously large companies have more of both.
