Re: Like using Alpha/In Development software?

Ouch. I personally never use alpha operating systems, because the bugs tend to be significant enough to affect my day-to-day work. Of course, the fact that some people tested this means that the bug has now been discovered before the official release. Imagine what would have happened without people ...

Re: I need advice on hosting issues

My forum is getting around 2-30,000 pageviews a day, with anywhere from 4-40 users on at once. It's on a (fairly basic) dedicated server (not purchased explicitly for the forum), but the load is barely above idle, and there is no paging going on. I'd say that unless you're expecting significantly mo...

Re: Receive updates on RSS when phpBB hasn't enabled RSS

You could try writing a script to periodically visit the forum, and to pull topic titles etc out of the HTML, and then turn the results from that into a feed.

Aside from that, I think the answer is no.

Re: Fear of upgrading from phpBB 2 to phpBB 3 - attachments?

You'd have to install it in a separate folder to your existing forum to test it alongside. I'm 99% sure the database is copied, but I'd definitely check. There is documentation for the converter around somewhere.

Re: Fear of upgrading from phpBB 2 to phpBB 3 - attachments?

Also you said I can install phpBB3 and keep phpBB2 operational at the same time? So I don't have to close my website, close my board before I install phpBB3? Then what happens? Is phpBB3 a new URL? Yes, for testing purposes. It won't work with a 'live' switchover, as (iirc) the database is copied, ...

Re: Fear of upgrading from phpBB 2 to phpBB 3 - attachments?

As long you didn't install any MOD that alter database columns, that come with a vanilla phpBB installation you'll be okay (as the converter will just ignore any added columns) . If I recall correctly, the converter will convert the attachment MOD by Acyd Burn (although I haven't upgraded a board t...

Re: Authentication problems

Okay, the problems have definitely been caused by Cooliris, and normal service has resumed once the users have disabled the extension.

Thanks for the help everyone :)

Re: PhpBB copyright string

The version number has previously been removed from the footer, as it can potentially be used by a malicious person to identify message boards vulnerable to security exploits (as it has been in the past). If an admin needs to check the status of their board, then the current version and any availabl...

Re: Authentication problems

It now appears that things are fine in FF Safe Mode for (at least one of the) people who have been having problems. I'm currently trying to get lists of extensions from those with issues. Edit: said member has tracked down the problem to the CoolIris (aka PicLens) plugin. Disabling that seems to hav...

Re: Authentication problems

Hitting the smartfeed whilst browsing caused be to be logged out, I guess the people with this issue have it in their browser as a feed. That is a trigger for some, but many can go wild; clicking and using the feed as much as they like. Others get logged out when they click 'View Your Posts', or th...

Re: Authentication problems

I've set up a demo account: testing/testing

I guess the next thing to do is to kill the mod as suggested, but it is just so weird that only three people are actually having problems (and all of them different, and of varying severity).

Thanks.

stevemaury wrote:What method did you use to update? Did you run install/database_update.php?
All the files were overwritten with the fresh versions via FTP, then I ran database_update.php manually. The ACP shows the correct version number.

Thanks,

Authentication problems [Solved]

Your board's URL: http://www.otherplaceforum.com Version of phpBB3: 3.0.2 Was this a fresh install or a(n) update/upgrade/conversion (please be specific)? All files freshly copied this morning: problems began after this, application of mod, and upgrade from 3.0.1. Database has existed for a while. D...
