Re: Offers of "free websites?!" Anyone tried any?

Fundamentally, you get what you pay for. You can pick up a hosting package good enough to run a small site (maybe 50 unique visitors or so per day) for about £10 a year, which will be stable and fast (providing you choose right).

Re: RC1 -> RC2 Update Errors

Are you trying to upgrade from a board that was once a beta? I was (unfortunately) forced into doing this, and had this thrown up: * Error :: Can't DROP 'ath_opt_id'; check that column/key exists SQL :: DROP INDEX ath_opt_id ON phpbb_acl_roles_data At least, I presume it was due to the beta upgrade...

Re: Pro Silver and Pocket PC web Browsers...

You can still use the SubSilver style if you install it in the ACP first.

phpBB3 Backup-Restore

I'm a little unsure if this is by design, a bug, or my stupidity, so I thought it best to ask first! I'm in the process of moving server at current, and of course, my phpBB3 RC1 forum also had to go along. I started off by making a fresh installation on the new server, backed up the installation usi...

I thought there was a 'Converter Team', and definitely recall seeing some in screenshots posted by the devs of the installer a few months back?

Re: This is NOT an upgrade

Not trying to be pedantic here, but if this is to maintain standards compliance, how come when clicking on the adverts at the bottom of the forum here on phpBB a new window is opened? Those are part of the phpBB website, not the actual package that will be released, and therefore have no impact on ...

Re: This is NOT an upgrade

The only one of your perceived 'complaints' that hasn't received an answer is:
he URL links open up in the same page so you EXIT from your site when clicking on a referring link

This is deliberate, and to maintain standards compliance.

Re: Is password field in Usertable encrypted??

True, but finding a collision vs the original cleartext wouldn't make any difference with regards to the security of the compromised user account on phpBB, and the chances of happening across one are tiny.

Re: Is password field in Usertable encrypted??

The passwords are hashed, not encrypted. This means that it is theoretically impossible (although manageable in practice with a lot of computing power, or rainbow tables) to get the original password back. tomlevens did, however, describe how you can use said hashes for the purposes of authentication.

Re: End of the English Language!

schools dont care about exam results? if so why do pass rates of schools get printed in the press every year then? it might not be the actual schools marking the exams but the schools reputation pretty much rests on its statistics these days doesnt it? You could have at least read my post before be...

Re: End of the English Language!

Personally, I don't care. They may pass some (pretty meaningless at the end of the day) exams, but wouldn't have a chance in hell of getting employed anywhere decent. If I see posts written in text speak on message boards, I don't read them since it's highly likely the person writing them is a moron...

IIRC Photoshop >9 has never been run totally successfully under Linux.

Re: Windows vs. Linux

It won't run Photoshop though (another reason Linux is useless for me as a desktop OS - I detest GIMP).
