Re: Discuss: phpBB 3.3.0-RC1 Release

When a user logs in, the password that user entered will be hashed using the new password algorithm and that will be stored as the new hash. Easy as that. ;)

Re: Posts waiting for approval should be visible to the authors

This has been merged into 3.3.0-b2. In its current setup, admins can decide whether unapproved posts should be visible. If there is a need for an additional permission we can also add this later.

Re: Update 3.1.12 to 3.2.8

Try changing this:

Code: Select all

	# Correctly pass scripts for installer
	location /var/www/vhosts/ww2airsoft.org.uk/httpdocs/php/phpBB2/ {
to:

Code: Select all

	# Correctly pass scripts for installer
	location /var/www/vhosts/ww2airsoft.org.uk/httpdocs/php/phpBB2/install/ {
P.S: the phpBB2 seems somewhat confusing. ;)

Re: Update 3.1.12 to 3.2.8

Can you post your full config? That way it would be easier to see if anything else does not line up.

Re: Update 3.1.12 to 3.2.8

It looks like you're using nginx and your nginx configuration is missing the necessary rewrite for the installer: https://github.com/phpbb/phpbb/blob/3.2.x/phpBB/docs/nginx.sample.conf#L93 phpBB 3.1 was still using a different installer that did not require this setting which explains why you're now...

Why has the phpBB logo changed from "creating communities" to "forum software"?
The logo was changed in line with our updated logo page. We believe that having "forum software" there will make it more clear what phpBB is. ;)

Re: Any update on PHP 7.3 support?

PHP 7.2 can be installed from the PPA of the maintainer of PHP packages for Ubuntu and Debian:
https://deb.sury.org/

Those are clearly as secure as using the ones from the official Debian and Ubuntu repositories and PHP 7.2 is still fully supported.

Re: php7-fpm vulnerability CVE-2019-11043

That does not appear to be a sufficient condition for this exploit to succeed. The try_files check we have in place is sufficient to stop this. If you remove that line, you do indeed become vulnerable. that seems contradictory to what's written about the exploit, e.g.: No file existence checks like...

Re: [3.3.0-b1] ext.php & custom reasons

From a quick glance I'd say have a separate language file for overriding those and then only load it when the phpBB version is not 3.3?

Re: Limit avatar image types

If you read that post then you should have come to the conclusion that while images can carry additional data, one would have to be able to inject something like a script tag or have the server execute that additional data somehow. I don't see this applying to phpBB. The MIME type IMHO has nothing t...

Which method are you referring to?is_enableable() is available in 3.2 and I think the sample code rxu provided should be compatible with both 3.2 and 3.3?

Re: hotfix for security issues addressed in 3.2.8?

We don't give out patches for security issues as these might not apply correctly depending on which version one is updating from and changes between releases themselves (e.g. RC1 to final). You can try to compare the versions on our github repository (e.g. https://github.com/phpbb/phpbb/compare/rele...
