Re: MySQL Server Has Gone Away on Localhost

Read the posts above next time moifest as you would have realised that this is a problem on a local pc not on a webhost. I did read the posts hence why I reffered to the guide for 'Offline' Conversions. I used that guide to convert my phpBB2 to phpBB3 on my LOCAL PC because my server kept dropping ...

Re: MySQL Server Has Gone Away on Localhost

Try reading this

http://www.phpbb.com/kb/article/offline-conversions/

This is the way I did mine and it worked no bother after my host kept dropping the connection during the conversion.

You wont need to do all those steps but the bigdump bit is particularly useful.

Re: Mandatory fields on registration page?

Its standard.

The reg form is as simple as it needs to be.

There is a guide for adding the Location as required. it would probably be possible to change it for adding in other fields as well.

Re: Lock topics in advance?

For the forum you want the members to add their details too edit the Permissions for that Forum for the Registered Users group (or whatever one you have members in) and set it so users can start new topics but not able to reply to them.

Re: How do I make "User Control Panel" say UCP instead?

All the output names are stored in the common.php in the language directory.

PROFILE for the User Control Panel

NEW_PM and NEW_PMS for the messages.

Just edit to what you want and save the file.

Re: Peculiar Issue with 1 user

Doesnt look like a phpBB problem if the forum works for him on another computer.

Probably WAY OFF here but it appears to be stopping at the google ads. Perhaps he has an ad blocker that it being a bit over cautious?

Re: No longer works? search.php?mode=results

The code used for the search box in the Prosilver style is as follows. <form action="{U_SEARCH}" method="post" id="search"> <fieldset> <input name="keywords" id="keywords" type="text" maxlength="128" title="{L_SEARCH_KEYWORDS}" class="inputbox search" value="<!-- IF SEARCH_WORDS-->{SEARCH_WORDS}<!--...

Re: message error "MySQL server has gone away [2006]"

This error usually results when the connection times out or the database crashes.

You might want to ask your host what exactly is causing the database to be unavailable.
