Re: CPU Usage abuse solution needed

Not sure about CIDRAM, but so far, so good with my simple expedient of setting up a Page Rule that defends all ucp* functions (see screenshot above).

No CPU overloads since I did that.

Re: CPU Usage abuse solution needed

Page Rules don't have that option

This is not the Firewall, this is the Page Rules that allow you to defend specific areas of the site

Re: CPU Usage abuse solution needed

Just to document my problem with the CloudFlare Captcha called hCaptcha: Visitors on mobile phones / smartphones are presented with a hCaptcha that takes up to a minute to complete, is unclear on the small screens, uses poor quality images, has terrible ergonomics (if you zoom in to see what the f i...

Re: CPU Usage abuse solution needed

Please read the article I link in my last post ... "all the most common user agents that were used by the residential IP bots we detected are typical of human users" Analyzing my raw access logs, I can see that many of the bad bot accesses are to the “register” and “login” pages. I have no...

Re: CPU Usage abuse solution needed

This issue just keeps getting worse. I have been rate limited due to CPU overuse on my new host as well, 3x in the last 10 days. I now have to use the Cloudflare Under Attack Mode (IUA mode) constantly, and that sucks because for some reason my mobile visitors are being forced to complete a hCaptcha...

Re: Bottom line: Is it worth changing styles?

Thanks Lumpy, I'll keep that in mind, but I've already hacked the Proflat theme into shape with DevTools, and I'll stick with that for now.

Re: Bottom line: Is it worth changing styles?

What I'd like to see is the style we're all using here, now, phpbb's own forum style, with the header image design and all, being made available to everyone. It's like an extra-enhanced version of Prosilver SE, right?

Re: Bottom line: Is it worth changing styles?

The one that looks horrible on a mobile is we_universal, and several have the header and footer bars stretching all over the screen and the middle sections contained.

I took one of them, proflat by muzeltof, and modified it to fix it. Sheeze. All that was needed was a bit of smart CSS.

Re: Bottom line: Is it worth changing styles?

I've just tried out two "5-star" themes and both are bad. Wow. One looks appalling on a small screen, the other is partly contained on a big screen, partly not, so you have alternating sections going right across the screen and others not. Yuck. And these have been downloaded tens of thous...

Bottom line: Is it worth changing styles?

I am worried that if I change style away from the vanilla prosilver style (with a few color tweaks) I will regret it eventually. What happens when new phpbb releases arrive? Do the style authors sometimes stop updating their styles and leave you high and dry? IOW, what are the pros and cons of stayi...

Re: CPU Usage abuse solution needed

Yes, I've replaced the India filter with the User Agent filter. That's a very smart one.

Re: CPU Usage abuse solution needed

That's a good tip. I also saw this tip, which may be the best of all: If you are using Cloudflare, a really quick and easy way to deal with this issue is to set up a firewall rule for ASN “AS136907”. AS136907 contains all the IPs for the organization “Huawei-HK-CLOUDS”. You can choose to Block all t...

Re: CPU Usage abuse solution needed

Cloudflare allows you to have 5 firewalls rules on their free account. So I'm blocking : China Russia Singapore India Philippines I see someone mentioned Hong Kong. I'm debating to replace India with Hong Kong. BTW, since I put those firewalls rules in, Cloudflare has blocked hundreds of thousands o...

Re: CPU Usage abuse solution needed

You say a bot, eh? Then why would it hammer my site non-stop for days? That's not crawling a site, that's a DoS-style attack
