Re: [BETA] AWS S3

How does this extension store the amazonaws links? It doesn't store them separately. It just uses the default phpbb_attachments table. Question: When I update this extension, do I have to delete the data, or can I just disable the EXT and upload the new version? You don't have to delete the data. T...

Re: [BETA] AWS S3

Great to hear it is working for you! Yes, you could theoretically use this extension on your live environment site for testing . As long as you bring the vendor folder along it should just work. All that composer install command does is create the vendor folder with everything you need in there. Dis...

Re: [BETA] AWS S3

You need to "change directory" cd into the s3 extension directory.

cd C:\xampp\htdocs\new\ext\AustinMaddox\s3\
And then...

Re: [BETA] AWS S3

Fatal error: Class 'Aws\S3\S3Client' not found in C:\xampp\htdocs\new\ext\AustinMaddox\s3\event\main_listener.php on line 49 Yes, this is the error that tells you that the AWS PHP SDK is not installed. Re: [BETA] AWS S3

You can download and install Composer many ways. I would always suggest running things locally. You can follow the instructions at https://getcomposer.org for your particular environment. I added a little bit of basic instruction in the README of the phpbb-extension-s3 project repository on GitHub. ...

Re: [BETA] AWS S3

First off, this is an extension in development; therefore, there is a high probability of it not working. ;) That is what makes this community great. We can discuss what works, what doesn't work, and how we can all help this open-source software be the best it can be. So, rather than tapping your fo...

Re: extension dependencies

This post is pretty old. Is there more current documentation somewhere regarding extension dependencies?

Re: Amazon S3 cloud storage extension

It is my understanding that CloudFlare does not offer storage in the cloud. CloudFlare offers a Content Delivery Network (CDN) in the cloud. By nature, CDN requires an origin , a place where the files are physically located and serve as the source of the file. The CDN communicates with the originati...

Re: [BETA] AWS S3

As to the question if and that's a big IF the S3 doesn't respond, does the local storage take over? I'm thinking not. Also, if I remove S3, do my attachments go back to normal? i.e. Not using S3? This extension doesn't actually take over the default behavior of phpBB writing to the local filesystem...

Re: Amazon S3 cloud storage extension

In case anyone is still looking for something like this, I've created a phpBB extension that uploads attachments to S3. I'd love some feedback on it.

Re: [BETA] AWS S3

k0nsl, using the same event listeners and concept I've outlined in this extension I don't think it would be too difficult for someone to write a similar extension that uploads files to a different service. Provided, of course, that the other service has RESTful API functionality similar to S3. Like ...

Re: [BETA] AWS S3

S3 has reached a level of maturity such that fallback strategies are not as important as they may have once been. Let me ask you a strange question to help illustrate my point... What fallback strategies are built into phpBB for any situation when the filesystem (ie. Hard Drive) is not accessible? S...

Re: [BETA] AWS S3

Thanks BF79. Mcclures, I'm not sure what you mean. Storing files on EC2 is the default behavior. If you were to host a phpBB site on an EC2 instance on AWS, by default phpBB uses the local filesystem which would be a mounted EBS-optimized EC2 volume and/or instance store storage. Your question doesn...
