Yes. Just change the permissions. PhpBB ROCKS! Make it so guests can NOT post, so you have to register/login before you can.

As far as the browsing, just make all the forums READ section set to registered so you have to be logged in to view them. :)

Large corporations, etc, usually choose vB becuase of their professionality and history. PhpBB is growing very largely and I feel it is being used on a lot more sites. The features are the same, go PHPBB! :)

I have Apache on my computer. I even edited my dns file so http://home.kylecool.com goes to my computer. :) That way people don't have to memorize my looooonng ip address. :)

I just installed Apache, Php, and MySql. :)

Yes, you need php to even read the file. :) Once installation is complete, a completed config file is given to you.

Yes, the search tool is a handy function. The only bad thing about free ones though is they are a little slow and not always available.
