Re: How to improve user engagement? Auto mailing lists, ect?

Anyone have an experience with improving user engagement on a PHPBB forum? My first though was to have a "Best Of" email blast weekly, and then to email users automatically when a user replies to their post. While I admit this may be slightly annoying, I think it will be effective. Anyone have an e...

Re: Adding Users through SQL

This is the code they have for hashing the phpBB password. Can I just delete this and use md5()? -- they have it at the end. *bunch of code* Removing phpass in favor of just md5() would be a very bad idea. Using just md5 hashing is very irresponsible when considering the safeguarding of your users'...

There's a language file that isn't being loaded properly. Consult the MOD author.

Because that's a popup. Lots of people block them, and get very annoyed by them.

Re: Collision with $user classes..

May want to consider use of object cloning in OOP5, when "moving" the phpBB objects into the static class.

Re: SGA: File-sharing is worse than bank robbery!

Dude, it can cost $100 million just to bring a single new drug to market. Why would anyone invest that kind of money in R&D when a competitor could just copy their product without all the R&D costs, and sell it for cheap? Technological R&D is not like writing music songs. The costs can be enormous....

Actually, you're wrong. They're not commented out, they're included in the comments to provide the necessary copyright notice for borrowed code.

Re: spambot issues with v3.0.7 ?

Spambots have always been an issue with any blog, CMS, or forum software - phpBB is no exception. I use no anti-spam mods whatsoever, and I might get a spam bot registration every two months or so. My relevant settings: -reCaptcha (included plugin for phpBB 3.0.6 and greater) -User account activati...

Don't rename the mod install files, download a copy of them and delete them on-server. It's too risky to leave them up.

Reference entry #7.

Flash is typically annoying as hell for most users, so stay away from it (unless you don't care if you scare off fleets of potential members).

Re: how to protect my phpbb forum from potential hackers

Code and password security does not imply deployment security. Emphasis added below: phpBB3 received a paid security audit and has had no major vulnerabilities found since its release multiple years ago. As long as you use good security practices (use a unique, secure password when registering your...

Re: [Discuss] Announcing Titania, the Customisation Database

I have a couple of non validated mods and a double post that I would like to delete. With Titania each author has his own area where he can manage his mods. Deleting mods should be a part of it because being able to delete your own work is only fair. There could be several reasons for wanting to de...

[Discuss] Announcing Titania, the Customisation Database

Also, can this topic just be split already? Seriously? The licensing of community submissions to Titania and the implementation of how that license is applied, is 100% relevant to discussion of the tool and its release. Whenever distribution of copyrighted works is involved, licensing is a critical...
