Re: Discuss: phpBB2's "Retirement" Announced

I am also well-aware of the fact that you don't know how to properly write secure software. You are "also well-aware of the fact that don't know how to properly write secure software"? How come, from where? FYI, I write open-source security software in C/C++ which has about 400,000 active users and...

Re: Discuss: phpBB2's "Retirement" Announced

phpBB2 isn't even officially supported on PHP5 because phpBB2 does not fall in line with the coding standards we have in place concerning PHP5. So why then has phpBB2 been receiving official support ever since php5 was launched, regardless of what version of php it was running on? I'm pretty sure t...

Re: Discuss: phpBB2's "Retirement" Announced

Oh, I've lost count over the number of times MIcrosoft's hotfixes have broken more than they fixed. Nevermind that to develop a hotfix, you still have to go through the steps I mentioned above.

Re: Discuss: phpBB2's "Retirement" Announced

The people that think it takes only 10 minutes a year to fix security-related issues have obviously never been involved with a real project. Some security issues are as silly as unsanitized input to a MySQL query call. Such an issue can be fixed even in less than 10 minutes. Also, you may want to l...

Re: Discuss: phpBB2's "Retirement" Announced

The people that think it takes only 10 minutes a year to fix security-related issues have obviously never been involved with a real project. Let's look at a basic lifecycle of a security report. Report->Verification (construct target system if necessary)->Scope test->Patch->Test->Patch->Test->Regres...

On the flip-side, the team did give a significant amount of time to take action. That's what EoL's are for. :) Just like Microsoft, PHP Group, and others, a timeline is given so people can migrate appropriately. Sure, it is inconvenient, but so is having to produce and support 3 major versions. :P

Re: What phpBB Team Members do you want to meet?

I was going to meet Ashley, but we never did get round to it - there was a bottle of Absinthe in it too, shame. It also would've been nice to have met Jon. I've met Pit, Gud and naderman - Pit has a hilariously huge afro. You aren't wanting to punch anybody, are you? :P Long time no see. :) ...and ...

Re: Problem With .htaccess

Here is the real fix: A basic knowledge of apache and how to configure it is assumed, if you dont know how to edit a text file and read documentation, please turn off your computer now. If you have access to your apache server configuration: <Directory "/usr/local/apache2/htdocs"> Options Indexes I...
