The problem seems to be with the /newssync/data directory (files created within it), It will not let me go back in and chown any of those NOR Chmod although I can 777 the /data directory itself and the script will run ONLY in phpbb but the chron fails. When I check each file inside /data, they are ...

right now I am +2h and should be -2h...

-k

right.
+0200 means the timezone is GMT+2hours. So, to get GMT time, you need -2h.

forum name change

if I change the name of the forum that is synced with newsgroup, will it cause trouble to newsync? I seem to remember the old 1.0 version has the forum name hardcoded in one of the configs...

sorry for the confusion. let me re-phrase the issue. both first and second post are a reply to the original post. since usenet has a tree structure while phpbb has a flat model, should phpbb list them as orignal, first, second or orignal, second, first? That's why we need to compare the time between...

handling of date/time

for a thread, one post has a header: Date: Fri, 25 Jul 2003 22:44:17 +0200 the other one has a header: Date: 25 Jul 2003 21:34:55 GMT if you convert the first to GMT, it would be 25 Jul 2003 20:44:17 somehow newsync thinks the first one is Jul 26, 2003 - 12:44 AM so the the second got listed before ...

first, make sure the admin_newssync_install.php is deleted from the admin directory AFTER the install is done.

second, do a "refresh" or "reload" from your browse and you will see more stuff under the Newssync Menu.

BTW, do you have a normal phpbb, or phpnuke/phpbb, or postnuke/PNphpBB2?

search db not cleaned?

I am testing the newssync hack: http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=82082 I created a new forum, using newssync to import a newsgroup, then purged the all posts in the forum using newssync. Now the forum is empty with 0 posts in it. When I check the mysql db, it seems the phpbb_search_wordlis...

do a quick test from your webserver to your news server.
On your webserver, run

telnet your_news_server 119

and post the result.

file based db?

I have a very small forum with only a few posts a week. I don't want to install a real database just for that. Does anybody know of a file based db on Unix that can work with phpbb? Thanks!

I still can't duplicate the problem --- it seems to be working fine for me. try turning split-subject off to see if you get "better" results btw: I am heading out of town in an hour for a week... also, I have been able to increase the speed of large newsgroups message updates -- testing soon... -k ...

it seems the SubjectCompare is not working in 1.0.4 and it worked fine in 1.0.3. Now we get lots of those "Unfortunately, this message is unavailable." posts and the number of "Posts" in the phpbb2 Index page doesn't match the number of articles on the news server after the initial import. I guess ...

Re: performance

fyi: - I now have a single sql query for looking for new phpbb messages and it will take < 1 or 2 seconds in testing - as for the looking for nntp messages, in short of rewriting the nntp library, there is no apparent (and easy) fix -- I will have to think about it a bit... also, I was able to dupl...

Re: performance

yes things be optimized and I'll look into it. where is it taking longer, looking for new usenet messages or looking for new messages originating within phpbb? -k in my test (one forum), looking for new usenet messages took 20 seconds and looking for new phpbb message took 25 seconds. both have 0 n...

Re: performance

I an not an expert in SQL (and don't really plan to learn), so if there is anyone who can tell me that I am not indexing a field, or whatever to speed things up, that would be greatly appreciated. that said, the looking for new posts sql is ineffecient as hell, I will add it to my list of stuff to ...
