I suggest you use an FTP client as it is easy to work with. Uploading files through web interface is time consuming job.

You can change permission of a folder with FTP program, right click the folder in FTP, then there will be option to change Permission.

Don't you have FTP login details ? If not, you should contact your web host. If you bave FTP login details, you can use FTP Client programs like CuteFTP, FlashFXP, etc... to upload files to your server.

Are you on Windows server ?

If yes, chmod will not work, still you can run the installation and phpBB create config.php file, that you can upload to your site through FTP to finish the installation.

If you modify posting_preview.tpl properly, it should show preview of attachment too. I think you deleted some code from posting_preview.tpl

Try modifying the template after taking a backup of orginal file.

Better re-MOD posting_preview.tpl and see if it fix the problem.

If you are hacked, better start with fresh copy of phpBB. Download new version of phpBB and upload to your web site.

Now you need to upgrade database, this is done by running the install/upgrade.php script.

Check if visual confirmation is disabled in Admin area. If it is disabled and only you have admin rights, some one else got your admin pass and changed settings. You will not able to modify mod_security rules. Only web server administrator will be able to set/modify these rules.

Do you have Yahoo account with SMTP support ? Try verifying by configuring Yahoo SMTP on your mail client (outlook or similar) .
