does phpbb use SMARTY ? {}?

I notice that alot of the templates use {} brackets. I know that SMARTY uses brackets to parse data into the page. Is it smarty or something that PHPBB made up ? either or, how do I declare those varibles and where would be the best suitable place to put declared varibles. ?

turning overall_header.html to PHP

I want to include my header into overall_header.html by usign an include but the template is a .html and when i change it to .php , all hell breaks loose. does anyone know any possible solutions for implementing php into the html template ?

I am trying to change around overall_header.thml. Im typing in text like HELLO and HI all through the html body and i can not see it when I bring it up in the browser for some reason. anyone have a clue what i can do

Well I know that. But index is the page that includes those templates. When I say the file that actually displays the template, I mean the file that ACTUALLY DISPLAYS the template when you come to view it in the browser. Not the file that holds the html. in the index.php at the root of phpbb3. If i ...

which file displays the forum template

Now I thought that index.php within the root of /phpbb3/ folder is the folder that displays the actual forum to view. but when I try to type in some text like "hello" or try to insert a include into the file, it doesnt appear, why is that ? Am i messing with the wrong folder ??

nevermind, I got it fixed. Just cant let dreamweaver try to update all the links. change folder and tell dreamweaver not to update all links. Its working fine now, but if anyone knows of any long term damage that might cause, please let me know. thanx

well I tried doing that before and all hell broke loose. Not only was I not able to connect to the forum, but the admin page was gone too. I got an php error everytime I tried to view the forum. And I did change the server script name and the folder name.I will do it again, and give you the error Im...
