Re: Random Account Switching

Update: Wiped EVERYTHING on Chrome Browser and ALL appears to be working, holding log in session, not switching accounts and showing posts on home page, even after hitting "board index" ... so this looks VERY POSITIVE for us right now. I will now re-wipe IE11 and MS Edge .. and sit tight on those br...

Re: Random Account Switching

We have around 2 months left on our main hosting, so we feel that all this drama has arrived at a timely manor and are now looking closely at better alternatives. After 10+ years service with HM, this is very disappointing and although over all these years, any hosting issues were typically minor an...

Re: Random Account Switching

if no difference it sounds like you will be back to support chat so they can add needed code for their varnish cache if they will do that. No, we will not be wasting any more time attempting to "get the message" through to our host, as after 6-7 hours of live chat, they have categorically stated th...

Re: Random Account Switching

You may have missed my post above? I read you post above, but did you open the .htaccess and add new content I posted or just rename it? Yes, I added the group of lines onto the base of the .htaccess file at /public_html level, then ran purge/session resets within the ACP. So, from what we see now,...

Re: Random Account Switching

Post able to be made in forum category, just not updating on the forum index page that a post was made. I keep telling you add that code to the .htaccess it will nullify varnish cache. You may have missed my post above? Carried out the .htaccess change at root level (/public_html/.htaccess) and thi...

Re: Random Account Switching

Check that the permission of the /cache folder is 777. Many thanks for the support and feedback so far, a country mile more productive than 5 "live chat" sessions with our host. The cache in our main forum (/public_html/forum) was set to 0755, so just changed to 0777 ... will update you shortly. Ed...

Re: Random Account Switching

Okay, update this morning ... Carried out the .htaccess change at root level (/public_html/.htaccess) and things actually look more stable, as far as random login/account switching is concerned when refreshing/hitting board index. On the negative side, when I try to access forum sections on two of t...

Re: Random Account Switching

Sounds like a good plan, so I may start carefully tidying things up tomorrow, keeping copies of these folders and directory structure offline. Our phpBB sits in a /forum dir, so there is a "clean" .htaccess file in this dir also, as of the time of upgrade to phpBB 3.2, so all appears tidy, going bac...

Re: Random Account Switching

hostmonster support rep only added it to the .htaccess file in public folder (not the ones in WP or PHPBB folders) this was added to the bottom of my .htaccess files backup current .htaccess before editing then replace current with edited one. Here is another issue, our hosting staff have left our ...

Re: Random Account Switching

This is driving me insane tonight/this morning.. Welcome to the party ...I don't think Host Providers have heard the last of this, as there are clearly unanswered questions from all of us. On your question regarding random users, I "don't think" you are physically logged into those accounts, or at ...

Re: Random Account Switching

Here is what I would like to know right now and although I completely respect that there are various topics going on with different sounding issues - they may all point to the same problem from our hosting providers in the last 3-4 days. 1) When did you learn that your forum hit this issue (random l...

Re: Random Account Switching

Right now, I have more faith in listening to knowledgeable headed here on phpBB support, rather than go into live chat with our host for around an 8th or 9th time. My last live chat yesterday lasted just under 2 hours, with little to no progress. So ... this line on the htacess file, whas is the str...

Re: Random Account Switching

Well, looks like we are in search of a new hosting provider today, as I am still in shock that the last live chat rep found it acceptable to conclude our chat, knowing that I was left with 3 phpBB forums in a crippled state. They clearly don't care, no longer have that believable "we care" approach,...

Re: Security Breach in 3.1.10?

Thanks for all the replies. It turns out that JustHost has Varnish installed on its shared servers and is the root cause of the problem (it's caching information - badly - including cookies/session IDs). Given this thread: https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=466&t=2365031 ... then it se...
