Re: [Discuss] phpBB 3.1 "Ascraeus" to require PHP 5.3.2

You can find good offers on WHT, (webhostingtalk.com) Iwe got two $15-20yr boxes with 128mb ram atm. both for about 6 month. one have had 5 mins of downtime or so, runs nginx and apc, load times 0.020 or so on index. Other has more downtime. So its a chance of course. Then again im using some 30 eur...

Re: [Discuss] phpBB 3.1 "Ascraeus" to require PHP 5.3.2

I see on my cpanel that my host is using PHP 5.2.17, when I inquire when they will switch to 5.3, I was told how to switch to PHP 5.3.x? By default, we use PHP 5.2.x on our systems, however if you wish to run PHP 5.3.x, please add the following line to your public_html .htaccess file: AddType appli...

Re: [Discuss] phpBB 3.1 "Ascraeus" to require PHP 5.3.2

5.4.0 is out but its not ready yet. Many of the php- modules havnt been updated yet. But 5.3.2 or higher is in all the ubuntu, debian, fedora releases. Centos im not sure about. But anyone still running older php is a crappy host anyway. So no problems here im sure by the time 3.1 comes out 5.4 will...

Re: Notify users when a new reply or topic is made

THx forgot about that. Sadly it requires user action. Hopefully the author will have a query to run to active it for all users. or else with 30 users or so it wouldnt be that much work for me to setup for each.

phpBB3 for blind users

Hey everybody. Iwe been asked to setup a forum for a blind group of users. They use reading machines, but the images are causing problems. The reply buttons in pms and topics is a problem. Do any of you have experiences with these kinds of programs and phpbb3. if so, i would love to hear more. Wak

Re: Varnish

Sorry. Link https://www.varnish-cache.org/ The basic idea is when you request a file from the phpBB3 directory its allready cached and your request wont even reach apache or whatever webserver you use. Thereby loading your site faster. Problem with it is that its easy to install but hard to config, ...

Delete old Private messages

Since we just reached 100K private messages on our site, i thought it was about time to get that number down. They take up a bit of space, especially with attachments. There are a few pm mods around, none of them can do this. One can but with 100K pms it would take around 200 hours to do. Mark 20 an...

Re: [RC] Enhanced Password Encryption

I cant see the reason for kicking up the encryption as you state. This mod is only usefull to protect the pw if the hacker has access the the db. if he has, alot more would have to be encrypted before the board gets any safer.

Re: [RC] Enhanced Password Encryption

This looks very interesting. One problem with this as i see it.

Pw will be encrypted in the database. But if the "hacker" or who ever it is has access to the db he can just read the posts and all the content. Encryption wont matter unless its on all tables with potential private information.
