Is there ever a reason to change EVENT vars in templates?

I was working with BBoots theme, helping a user get an extension of mine working. Quickly noticed that <!-- EVENT --> were renamed in that styles required template. Thus, not loading the extension event files. The user informed me that he provided the original template. It could be a human mistake, ...

Re: Incompatible Extensions for 3.2

Perhaps this topic needs an updated list on the first post of what extensions have been and still have not been updated.. if you're like me, I'm not skimming through pages and pages of info, not at this level of importance. Or just keep posting these if you so wish: Ask this in the support topic for...

Re: where to edit forum width

Dm uses his own forum width extension on his own board. If there is an issue with it, I'm sure he would like to know about it. Don't forget that the extension is prolly not set for guests. I don't use it, but tested it once, and if I remember correctly, the ext allows the 'user' to set their own (no...

Re: Robot.txt

This list is very unoptimized. Not only does it contain 153 duplicates, it also demonstrates the lack of understanding regular expressions. Before someone asks: it's rather pointless that I present an optimized version without preventing those who'll maintain it will do the same mistakes again in t...

I admit also, I thought that too at first glance. But isn't it much nice that it doesn't? Think about it!

Re: Robot.txt

I have updated the bad bot list in three forms which are now available from my website. The phpBB .htaccess file with the added bad bots, the same but with a http to https redirect, and the raw list by itself. https://phpbb.hifikabin.me.uk/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=110 Well done, looks sharp! You da man ...

Re: Description forums and SEO

Looks like you were successful! But, does your site description read from the ACP setting? That was your original question if I understood it correctly. If not, this is the correct variable for site description: <meta name="description" content="{SITE_DESCRIPTION}" /> That will parse whatever you se...

Re: How important is user friendly (human readable) URL for SEO?

I get bashed every time I have submitted anything here in the forums, forgive me if I feel like no one cares. So I just do what I got to do.. if you would like the code, asking would be a great start. My PM box is open. But this is basically why these SEO discussions never produce any results. It's...

Re: How important is user friendly (human readable) URL for SEO?

Would be nice if, for once at least, one of you would send a pull request for these apparent SEO improvements instead of just patting yourselves in the back for it. 😉 A lot of comparing, complaining and berating goes on and not one single code change is ever submitted to the core... 🤔 I get bashed ...

Re: Robot.txt

Bots don't always read the robot.txt file though and many ignore it Exactly so. The only way to prevent bots indexing specific forums is 1) Make sure that you have an up to date list of bots on your forum (see https://phpbb.hifikabin.me.uk/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=25) 2) Assign bots permissions correctl...

Re: Viglink does not work

I recently (two days ago) clicked on an external link on my site, and it opened in a new tab like normal with a viglink url that failed to load. I then realized that it was the actual external link domain that was down, not vig link. perhaps you experienced the same thing, if not sorry for the post.

Re: How important is user friendly (human readable) URL for SEO?

As for this topic title, I could care less about pretty URLs as well. It's just to please few humans, but sure, words look better than viewtopic?f=5... SEO titles and descriptions, I DO CARE ABOUT (not so much keywords). The way I understand it is, straight out of the box phpBB does not need any SEO...

There is nothing to discuss here, I mean constructive. You already know anything. Your version checker knows that. Very funny I got a mental coach today, for free. Your welcome, glad I could help you! Topic can be closed now. I got everything working now under a https domain because I'm a fricken g...
