are you wanting this converter to use the DAL? or can i just write it for mysql? i am very confortable with php/mysql - but will have to figure out the DAL if that's the way you want it.

i just d/l openBB 1.0.0 rc2 (because that's the only one i could find on their site). at first glance it doesn't look that bad. is this the correct version we need to convert from?

i'll play with it today and see what i can knock out.

might be a bug with phpMyAdmin. ver 2.2.1 is out - so might grab it and see if it fixes itself. otherwise they have a bugtracker on their site.

good luck!

i'm not saying stats aren't important... just that not everyone would want them. but technically it would be a template issue (as stated before) and so if you didn't want them on every page you could just edit the template. so those who want it can have it, those who don't, don't :)

i think this has been explained, but i'll give my 2 cents (since i'm in a posting mood) in order for the portal to have all the functionality that is planned it has to rely on the phpBB2.x engine. therefore the portal is dependant on the forum and cannot be seperated. here's where i'm a bit fuzzy in...

this would be a template issue imo. not everyone would want this on the bottom of every page - but some would. if it uses the same functions as the stats page then they could easily be used for either.

i've been meaning to make this comment.. but the user of the portal should have the option not to use phpBB2 as their forum.. IMO they should be able to choose whatever forum software they want to use but use the phpBB as a hidden forum just to update their site etc... sorry, but i too totally disa...

from the comments made by theFinn and pso i believe that if it's under the umbrella of phpBB devs then there would be open communication between the groups. IOW when phpBB2 came out then the next version of the portal would come out as well. if under phpbb umbrella then portal depdant on phpBB - so ...

another item for ease of use would be tying the talkback to the forum. this way we are not having to create something else new. also it works very well for ars. there is another item that muddies up the water slightly... are you gonna seperate news items and articles? sorry for continually referring...
