Re: [BETA] Bantron

I've noticed that in the Bantron script, whenever a banned IP address contains 255 as one of the numbers, it gets treated as a wildcard (asterisk). Is this working as designed? It doesn't make sense to me.

Re: What was changed in phpBB3 to prevent Firefox double views?

Well, the database issue can be something like improperly incrementing (I had the strangest issue with time going backwards on phpBB.com for a few years ...), corruption, improper conversion, etc. Yes, I understand, but would there be a difference between browsers/clients with regards to database b...

Re: What was changed in phpBB3 to prevent Firefox double views?

http://micheal.webfactional.com/phpBB/phpBB2/ I setup a fresh 2.0.23. It does not exhibit the behavior you are seeing elsewhere (I did see it on the site running phpBB2 that you linked to). I think that it is not a phpBB problem, but rather other factors at work, such as MODs, database issues, or c...

Re: What was changed in phpBB3 to prevent Firefox double views?

What makes you think it was an issue to be fixed in the first place? ;) What I mean by that is, phpBB2 did not suffer from this, and phpBB3 doesn't. Chances are, it is a problem with your installation. As asked, any MODs? Are phpBB2 and 3 on the same server? Do you have links to both for us to see?...

Eelke wrote:I don't see this behaviour on my own phpBB2. Do you have any mods installed?
My own implementation of phpBB is heavily modded, but I have tested this problem out on versions of phpBB that other sites are running. On boards that run phpBB2, views are double-incremented, on phpBB3, they aren't.

What was changed in phpBB3 to prevent Firefox double views?

In phpBB2, using Firefox 2.0.0.12 without add-ons, whenever I look at a topic, the number of views goes up by 2, but with phpBB3, it only goes up by 1, which is what is expected.

What was specifically changed in the code to fix this anomaly?

Why was "Display results as" in Search defaulted to "Posts"?

I noticed that "Display results as" in Search is defaulted to "Posts" in 3.0 whereas in 2.0 it was defaulted to "Topics".

Was there a specific rationale for doing this? Is searching by posts generally more productive for users?

Re: The hardest question of all... how do you get new users?

I started a local history and issues forum in November. Outside of the admin (me), my co-founder, and two fake accounts, it currently has 43 bona fide members. There are occasional bursts of activity, but it is never sustained. Outside of the forums of our local corporate newspaper, there is no obvi...

Technical approaches to increasing registrations

I run a local issues forum using a heavily modded phpBB, and I have wondered if other board administrators know of some proven technical methods (including mods) that have a way of encouraging people to register. I am already working on "social" ways to increase registrations (like participating in ...

Thanks, but I've already applied the Advanced site keywords control mod. It's working beautifully.

Re: [2.0.21] Clone posts

If you read teh 'IMPORTANT' sticky that appears in the pink area at the top of the page, you will see how to get the file now. In short, try this: http://www.phpbb.com/files/mods/clone_posts_1-0-5a.zip Thanks! For some reason, I'm having trouble focusing on this newly styled phpBB. The "IMPORTANT" ...

Re: [2.0.21] Clone posts

I'm unable to download the mod at this time (as I'm sure all mods can't be downloaded now), but I have a question about its capabilities. I would like to be able to not only clone a post to start a new topic, but also clone a post within a topic. For example, whenever I complete a new version (e.g.,...
