I'd be interested in sharing information on voice chat software integration with phpBB. Certainly Skype might be part of the picture, especially with the improved "I'm online" icons and SkypeCasts to have voice with a group of people. I haven't had much luck with them, but there are also F...

Yes, if you're willing to accept that the moderator will be the bottleneck in how quickly conversations progress as all guest posts will need to be approved Good point and not only guest posts, but all posts until we feel the member has gained our trust. It is still work and maybe some of the tools...

Seems like a lot of work when 3 basic steps take care of spam: (1) Continue to improve the basic anti-spam tools such as registration required to post, email / user verification, visual confirmation (2) Do not display members without posts in the member list or in the newestmember links - this easy ...

I honestly don't think you guys understand the magnitude of this issue with your current software, and how urgently it needs a fix. Anything to cut down on the automated signups will be so significant to us. Basically I think you're right - you can no longer run a standard phpBB without getting spa...

Can't speak to the down time you mentioned, but I was kind of impressed that they were on top of things enough to know what was causing a performance problem. One of my hosts just lets the issues go on forever. Have you tried running phpsysinfo on your site to see what the statistics look like? ... ...

I don't mind helping to promote valuable members with links to their websites - just don't like helping the spammers that don't contribute anything meaningful to the discussion. That is why we do not list members with 0 posts or newestmember with posts - now the battle is shifting to the posts thems...

I think the solution is to

(1) Do preventative measures like you mentioned, which will keep some spam out

(2) Do not list spammers without posts on the membership lists or as newestmember

(3) Optionally require posts by Non-trusted members to be approved by administrators or moderators.

The prefix item sounds right and also suggest you use phpmyadmin to compare counts old system to new system and browse a few records to make sure you have everything.

I have the same question, but for bulk deletions, not individual members. We no longer display members or newestmember for those with 0 posts because of memberlist spam issues. Now it's time to do a periodic pruning of the memberlist to remove members without posts. I know how to write a SQL stateme...

OK - Let's agree that perhaps #1 is not the best because of the reasons expressed - why not allow #2 - links to neutral message boards where comparisons are discussed?

Allow Message Board Comparison Discussion

I respectfully ask that phpBB re-evaluate its position on: (1) Not allowing message board comparison discussions or (2) Not allowing links to established popular websites that do allow message board comparison discussions #2 seems like a strange possition, since phpBB benefits from such discussions ...

PHP Message Board Comparison - Link

Since the phpBB forum does not wish to have message board comparison discussions (perhaps with good reason), I started a thread on Site Point Forums which can be used.
http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/rules.php#rule6a

More neutral ground, may yield better comparisons.
Perhaps this could be a sticky?

Thanks - I agree that we need to be able to turn the images off. This may also relate to the concept of trusted vs non-trusted users. I'm amazed that I've not had more problems with images. Let's be proactive.
