Re: User Table Deleted by Hacker

I don't think so ... there's no indication yet that this bot can hack a board. I think you are using an old phpBB version (2.0.10 or earlier) and have been hit by the highlight exploit. You need to upgrade your board to 2.0.12.

This is really getting serious guys. With the latest information this script can both register itself and send guest posts. Without visual confirmation and somehow modified or disabled guest posting, you aren't safe.

Google find now 47 900 hits ... and it's increasing. That's a huge number.

Great MOD ... I like it. I only implemented the user_active=1 on my forum. I think its enough to keep the spam bots away. Later on you can delete the database with unactiveted users. I don't really like the website restrictions. I haven't seen yet seen a bot that can activate itself. And thank you ...

That is not possible at all... anyone can be a guest! It's possible ... but only to send. And that was the question , right? I think it could be easy done ... but you have to find the right if:s in the code. And why would you want your guests to PM anyways? Make them register! You get more members ...

Your suggestion doesn't work .... there exist proxies and NATs that can have up to thousands of computers behind a network. For example the company where I work use same proxy ... In other words only one guy from a big company will have possibility to register.

So really ... it's a bad idea.
