Re: tapatalk- do I need it and why is it so hard to install?

So it turns out if you have Tapatalk on your forum, there is a bug that's been there for a while that lets any user read any private message. See viewtopic.php?f=64&t=2469156

Re: Tapatalk security issue

I was able to duplicate this issue. Indeed I could craft a link and read multiple PM's. Completely unacceptable. Disabling TT immediately and will contact TT.

Re: tapatalk- do I need it and why is it so hard to install?

And it does nothing that phpBB does not do natively. It has only one advantage, and that is that it does push notifications to mobile devices. It actually gets users coming back to the forum. I hate TT more than anyone but I've got it installed on one forum because when I disabled it people raged a...

Re: How to use Automatic Update package to update files only (not db)?

Well right or wrong, on my next forum upgrade, I ran the command line interface upgrade first, then went through the normal upgrade web-based process. It seemed to work just fine. I'm not sure how to verify the database upgraded fine but the command line did tell me "[OK] The database update wa...

How to use Automatic Update package to update files only (not db)?

I just used the 3.2.2 automatic update package to upgrade from 3.2.1 (which is what I always use because I modified a couple of core files, overall header and footer). In fact, this is the recommended update process. This is right in the documentation: This update method is the recommended method fo...

Re: Meta Description In Google?

Yes phpBB is indexed correctly out of the box and you can get search engine traffic. The problem is it isn't optimized for search engines so competing products that use people-friendly words in the URLs or include unique, descriptive meta descriptions are at an advantage. There are enough SEO thread...

Re: Meta Description In Google?

I wouldn't say it is a bad idea. after all, there are millions of sites out there with exactly that and they don't all suffer from a SEO point of view. It is a bad idea. The sites do suffer from an SEO POV. All phpBB boards do for that matter. Meta descriptions are very important because they can i...

Re: Discuss: phpBB 3.2.2 Release

I have 8 forums, all still on 3.2.1. Considering there are some known issues, should I bother updating right now to 3.2.2? I guess the question really becomes will there be a 3.2.3 relatively soon or are we talking like 6 months+ for the next release? Thanks.

We need to know what those reasons are. The only problem I see in this thread is that you are using really old, risky, outdated software. Let's get you up to a current version, what's holding you back?

Re: blueline forum - death of owner/administrator

If you're lucky, gain access to that person's computer and try using the browser. You might get clues from bookmarks, sites visited, and the browser might even remember login information to such sites. Gaining even some passwords, or bookmarks for that matter could be extremely valuable. Is it possi...

Re: Google Captcha

I was so happy to finally switch to ReCAPTCHA 2 when I switched to phpBB 3.2. In reality it's worse than having my own question & answer (Q&A). You'd figure Google of all companies would be able to get that right! Just use Q&A.

Re: 3.2.1 upgrade, ReCaptcha2 not working

When I use Chrome I don’t see the CAPTCHA at all. Maybe it’s browser related but I doubt it because see my first post, Google is telling me there is a problem that they recognize from their end.

Could it possibly be style related? Are you using the default prosilver style? If not then try with that.
I use the default style.
